Yes the official color is called orange.

I have had many valet opportunities but just can't bring myself to let a kid drive and park my car!

I have no door dings or paint chips and I want to keep it that way.

maybe after i get one I will pe a little less picky...NAW, DOUBT IT!

Orange it is!

This valet just backed it in where it was (I had pulled up to the front of the venue)...I also have the same reservations with the valet, heck I was even looking to see if he had keys or whatnot in his back pocket that might cut the leather (boy, never thought I'd considered such cares before LOL)...if I can't park it myself and keep the keys I have the same concerns!!! Since then the valet guys have acquised and I appreciate it.

I have about 14 dings...have an expert dent pro friend who is going to pop em out before I take pics (I only saw 4 of them, until he had me view them from a different perspective...that's why he's the "expert"!!!)...also gonna touch up some blemishes and wet sand a door that was painted over (I'm amazed at how they pick up all these nuances so easily)...and like you...I hope there's no more ding-a-linging going on hereafter!! *laughs*

Thanks for clarifying SLKman!

My biggest concern is the auto body shop getting the same color as the car. With the copper SLK's being relatively rare in the US, I don't know what color they will get. I need to have the rear quarter painted. The prior owner scraped it down to the primer. I think the rest of the car is surfaced scratched and just needs sanding and clear coat. I hate to have the whole car painted because they couldn't get it to match.

I wondered about that myself but my friend is rather confident they mix it up for a successful match with any color...let us know, I'll post pics when I'm done with the touch ups...plus ask for a little extra to take home so i can touch up minor scrapes/chips in the future...

I conur. I bought a touch-up pen from the dealer just before I left for Germany...total waste of $70! But, it does look a little better than the grey primer.

They normally put some sort of "scanner" on another part of the car to get a match. The body work I just got done is impeccable! You'd never know I had the fenders, bumper, hood and sideview mirrors repainted.

I received the autovisuals paint marker (Designo Orange Mica, code DB020) for our copper designo...it matched up pretty dang close for the very small chips, but not exact...

Next week I'm getting the scratches professionally touched up (will see about matching the color then) and the small dents popped out...and new tires/wheels put on.

Gonna refinish the stock amg wheels (which are in rough shape) and powdercoat them black and use them for winter tire setup.

I'll take pics of the autovisuals marker touch up areas after to show ya what it looks like. I still have other areas to touch up and I'll do a before/after thingy...

Well I suppose I should chime in. 2000 Designo Orange 230SLK in Boise Idaho. Pretty sure it's the only one in southern Idaho.

BTW How many of those 30 imported do you guys think were manual transmissions.

Hopefully this worked...I attached a couple of pics of my 2000 copper sport...summer 18" black tires/wheels and winter (repainted) stock wheels (17")...I actually noticed a much improved ride with the stock wheels back on, but like the black for looks! Ya might catch the windrestricter (great service/expedient shipping) as well...I had it tinted 5%, although they were very reluctant to tint because its not glass (came out ok nonetheless). Had all the dents (except one) popped out, there were 17 of them, and one door area was repainted and matched perfectly...I can't tell a difference. The autovisuals pen thingy has yet to function properly like it initially did for the small touch-ups, even when reloading new tips in it. Love this car!

Looks Great!! I like the black wheels. I considered black too, but couldn't get the wife to buy off on it. I'm going for the double spoke AMG style in 18". Can you tell me what your wheel/tire setup specs are?

Certainly! Keeping in mind this is the SLK "sport" setup and is staggered:

For the 18" setup I used TSW "Montage" wheels in gloss black with staggered fitment and no spacers, etc...bolted right on but they did need to cut back a couple threads on the bolts that came with these wheels, I heard the scraping initially when I first pulled out and thats when we realized it...they said these were the shorter bolt kit ordered (?):
18X8 front
18X9.5 rear

I have the summer setup with the 18" tires, I went with Yokohama S. drive ultra high performance summer tires:
225/40R18 front
255/35R18 rear

Winter setup is stock staggered fitment...I have Dunlop Winter performance on there now, wanted to put Blizzaks on but they weren't available at the time locally.

One note from previous post on the windrestrictor...I had a local shop tint the windrestrictor, not the good folks at windrestrictor...tinting on plastic is not recommended but I did it anyways and it came out nice enough...but don't know how it will fare down the road, as the glue-tint thingy doesn't work on the plastic like it does on glass. Just wanted to clarify that. It does however, keep things very private from the rear and now I have no inclination to tint the rear window...plus its less costly and gives me a bit of privacy when the roof is in the trunk too!!!

Brent, I'm sorry! I'm not sure how I missed your post.

The car looks great!! The accident turned out to be a blessing in disguise. They matched the paint perfectly. You can't even tell. Can't wait to do the AMG kit if I ever find one I can get shipped here for a descent price...shipping that is. I find kits all day long for under $900...shipping cost just as much! ...unbelievable.

ironchariot - Can you take some closeups of your wheels/tires? I'm interested in seeing how much the tire hangs out from the rim. And also a similar side shot like the one posted with your stock wheels?

Coincidentally, just spotted a copper SLK last night in downtown Chicago before seeing this post today. It's a beautiful vehicle, especially reflecting the city lights.

Thanks Charlie, that's great!! I probably won't go as wide in the back, probably 9. And you're at stock height, right?
