I have a 1999 SLK R170 with near 150.000 km.
The 150.000km maintenance service has to be performed.
I wanted to do it myself, at least as much I can, so I wanted to know what is the check and action list for this maintenance (oils, filters...).
Can anyone help me?
Hi Pedro, welcome from NE England - I've nearly got 6K miles on my 2004 R171 - I don't want anyone (else) to touch it - I do oil & filter changes myself, and I think that most of the other service items are just a license for your dealer to print money.
absolutely agree
dealer maintenance service for 10 year old car is waste of money
on my 98 slk i only change oil/filter every 5000 km and go for other services when it's really needed
First of all, thanks for your replies.
This is my opinion as well.
A want do the the maintenance myself, the only problem is to find out what specific 150.000km actions/replacements/checks... has to be done.
The flexible service sheet is a (very) good check list but don't know if is missing anything, again specific of the 1500.000 revision.
one important thing. U better already have done or must do a Transmission flush with those miles aka km/h on it.And U better get that done ONLY at Mercedes Benz.
Fuel filter change, break fluid flush, new spark plugs, probably new battery as well...
150,000 km isn't a magic number when it comes to maintenance. You need to follow the maintenance service sheet and time/mileage recommendations in the manual. Brake fluid may be due as well as coolant, oil change and filters, etc. It all depends on when it was done last. The point is that it needs to be done by someone. Mercedes cars aren't real good about deferred maintenance. I totally disagree with the poster above who doesn't do anything until something breaks. My cars haven't seen the inside of a service center in ten years except for alignments, but no service interval was ever skipped - I do them myself.
Their was no maintenance skips but this is a new car for me (I bought it last summer) and this is the first big maintenance that I will do on it and I wanted to "start fresh"...
Anyone know how much quantity of differential and gear box oil the R170 takes?
I am planning to exchange:
- oil filter
- gas filter
- air filter
- ac filter (depends)
- engine oil
- spark plugs
- at least clean the battery plugs (their any special procedures/attention to unplug the battery?)
- depending on the condition, the gear box and the differential oil.
For the rest I will follow the flexible service sheet for service B
Not for disconnecting, but when you reconnect it there are a couple of procedures you need to follow - from memory, one of them is turn the steering from lock to lock twice, but they're all documented in the owners manual.
