CONGRATULATIONS!
.....Somehow, I feel like everyone here on SLKWorld shares in this victory.....
I certainly hope so. It has been this forum and her great members that have provided the guidance, opinion, instruction and in some cases installation towards this great automobile. Without the help of everyone here this most likely would not have been accomplished. I consider my SLK as a "Group" effort and therefore believe that this honor rightfully belongs to the SLKWorld Forum as a whole. Everyone here has been so supportive, reassuring as well as responsible for the results. I was simply the financier.

Your SLK is one of the best looking IMO.

Wow Steve!!! So happy for you...very proud too - so cool to see the 171 (deservedly) next to cars with legendary reputations - Gullwing, 190 (yes?), looks like a CSL down the line... Bodes well for the future or our beloved mark. Steve, you've made a big first step for all of us and our cars. So, thank you and congratulations.

JJ, firstly thank you for the kind words, but I have to tell you all a story as we speak of the "future" of the R171.

So on Saturday Durk and I were cruising along 17 Mile Drive in Pebble Beach when we spotted a couple new Jaguar FTypes stopped along side of the road. Durk pulled over thinking this would be a good spot to take a picture as well as take a look at the Jags. We approached the drivers of the Jaguars to find out that they were employees of Jaguar, specifically "Driving Instructors" as they were assigned to drive around the Bay, stop to speak with people, introduce them to the F-Type and extend an invitation to take an instant test drive of the new beast. They gave each of us a nice quality Jaguar hat and we had a rather long conversation about their new model. Of course we complemented how beautiful the Jaguar looked and in turn they complimented how beautiful the R171 is as well. As I explained to them how I love the F1 style nose of the car they replied with the explanation (that we already know) of why that style nose is no longer being used in the EU because of the increased danger in the event of a collision with a pedestrian.

Long story short, they agreed that "THE NOSE" of the R171 makes the car iconic and without a doubt, in their opinions, our cars will be classics in time as well as other makes and models that possess that styling. They felt that it may not take long for collectors to yearn for the style so the future may be closer than we think!

In other words, hang on to your R171 as it appears that nothing else will be manufactured as such, ever again.

I've been searching the internet for images of the Legends of Autobahn and have found plenty of pics. but nothing showing the SLK :frown: with the exception of one website in Germany called MotorKlassik. Albeit the car is shown in the background, but still a shot of SLK none the less.

HERE is a link to the article, the image is picture #20 and I think that the person shown taking a picture of the car is @Durkatlon?

Congratulations! Couldn't help but nitice that in the overview with the 6 winning cars, the BMW E36 is the most outdated-looking car of the bunch :). At the very best, it's the least-appealling one of them all.

Your 171 doesn't pale in comparison to the 190 and Gull, which is a feat on its own (and a 170 is even prettier! ;) ).

Thank you for the wonderful complement, but those classics are beautiful! As wonderful as they are however, after talking with both owners they both admitted that driving the newer vehicles is much more comfortable, convenient and fun. So, I agree with you, the SLK holds her own, even in that good company.
