Default Easty's Wild West/Pacific Coast Adventures.

I'm coming to the end of a working contract soon guys n gals and I know I've been somewhat absent recently. I'll have to apologise for the next few weeks in which I may be on here very little. At the moment I'm uncertain of where in the world I'll be in the near future. I might just be unemployed bumming around for a bit in my car. I'd like to stay in the states at the moment so the possible locations are Seattle, LA and Georgia but who knows. I'm also looking at Canada, specifically Montreal. Sounds pretty strange but the travel and unplanned future
is something I kinda enjoy. Hopefully I'll be settled and fully reengaged as soon as possible.

Brian

No need to apologies.
Your SLK might not like Canada as much as LA or Georgia.
Anyway good luck wherever you'll be.

Sounds exciting, I think? I assume you have a choice. I've been doing the same thing, same location, for almost eleven years. It does get somewhat old, but I do like the routine. I'm in my "happy place" and I shouldn't complain. I'm too young to retire and have no desire do so for the next five to ten years. At this point, I would prefer to work less, rather than more. We'll see. Brian, good luck in you next work assignment and location.

Montreal is a FUN city easty, just ask Zut! Lots of things to do - excellent restaurants, night life (St. Catherine's Street! ) sightseeing, sports venues (incl annual F1 circus!) etc etc. Best of luck with with it all!

Still in fort worth at the moment here, getting things sorted. Hopefully I'll be setting off tuesday morning. This is my very rough slightly unplanned route. it may change on the path. I'll keep you updated.

If i'm near anyone on my travels be sure to say and maybe we can meet for a brew of some kind.

Brian

Different strokes for different folks, but I would skip the LA section. I would head up just a little more up to Grand Junction and see Colorado National monument and then over to Salt Lake and across to San Francisco and up. See the Golden Gate and go to John Muir Woods just across the bridge to the north (and a little west). Then the coast road up through the Redwoods. I think there is a road closer to the cost of Oregon (but it has been a long time since I was over that way). Of course, once you are in Seattle, there is beautiful scenery and driving along the coast from Vancouver north up to Whistler. That Vancouver area is very scenic, but lookout for falling rocks. :-)

Have great trip in any case...

Default Stay out of CA

I moved away from CA during the summer of '06. I was born and raised near LA and I can only tell you this....

I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!!

The only temptation is Yosemite.

If you skip it, just think about how much time you'll save by not having to wait in pathetic traffic. Also, you will avoid some lung-clogging pollution as well.

It seems a lot of people have this opinion of LA, I only spent 1 month there in 2000 and I had some good times. I think this was all holiday though and I didn't get caught up in the madness of the 9-5 routine at all. I can see how it could be pretty bad to have to do that everyday. I stayed in santa monica and it seemed quite easy to go north and it wasn't too busy.

Awesome tips mate. I'm really playing by ear, it's how I like to travel and my instinct on the day usually works so I'm planning the trip like this. the more I look into it the more places I tick as must see. overall I'll be generally camping. I don't mind the cold at all, but driving on snowy, icy roads is something I want to avoid. So I kinda tried to keep south. I want to see the indian cliff dwellings at messa verda and then I'll drive over to monument vallet, I've found a little campsite called mitten which seems to be open all year and looks fantastic in the images. then I was thinking of heading for the grand canyon to camp(desert view, east on the canyon). and from there i can visit the crator which is south at winslow(always wanted to see that).

Still unplanned, I want to see joshua tree park via travelling a little of the route 66. then up toward LA, I have so friends of the family live in Norwalk, LA. thats a must see or I'll get shot. then to santa barbara where I can stay at a house my friend just bought, but it's empty. then i want to do the 101 again and the redwoods again and Oregan is unplanned, need to do more research. it'll be a 3-4 weeks away so I have plenty of time.

that would be awesome mate, I'll keep posting my location.

Brian, If you stop by So Cal, hopefully it will be a week end. As other's that are "negative", the traffic is a joke on week days , but I can say the same for the Bay area (what a disaster for driving) .

I could spend weeks crawling around northern Arizona at places like you described. Another place you may want to check out is the petrified forest (painted desert). It's before Holbrook (from the east) on interstate 40 (191) in AZ.
