wah.. amazinggg... such beautiful places... i would like to go on a trip in my slk too...
but driving such long distance and in the country.. did u encountering lots of rock chips or anything?

Hi guys thanks for the comments. I'm a little north of san diego now. Not sure where i'm staying just in a starbucks using the net. I've been in Joshua tree camping for a couple of days. I loved it there. Wish I had some climbing gear though, I felt like I was missing out watching all the climbers mount the awesome rock formations there. got loads more pics. Not sure I can upload them just yet as batteyr is a little low and cannot find an outlet here.

Yeah I'm near a place called cardiff on the sea. seems nice. I'm visiting a pub called churchells in san macros for a couple if anyone is near there. and be in san diego tomorrow. What are the must do's guys Eddy??

As to your trip to San Diego tomorrow. You could stop by old town San Diego and get your bearings. The weather will be cold, about 60 and windy.

If your looking for a camp site Thursday night, the only one I know of is San Onofre, south of San Clemente off the 5 fwy at Basilone Rd.

If your still heading to Norwalk, I'd suggest taking Pacific Coast Highway from San Clemente to Seal Beach, turn right on Seal Beach Blvd which happens to turn into Norwalk Blvd (convenient). The freeways will be a disaster. At Seal Beach Blvd and Westminster Ave, you'll see the assembly building (relic) for the Saturn 5 rockets across the street from Boeing.

In San Diego:
1. Balboa Park, next to the San Diego Zoo, juction of 5 and 163. Coronado Hotel is nearby also.
2. Old Town San Diego on San Diego Ave. and Twiggs St., near the 8 and 5 juction. Historical buildings and museums.
3. Point Loma, go through US Naval Base, to Cabrillo National Monument and lighthouse. South end of SR 209. Admission $5 per vehicle. Overlooks San Diego City and Harbor.
4. Sunset Cliffs along Sunset Cliffs Blvd. between Hill St. and Point Loma Avenue. View of rocky cliffs carved out by the surf.

Do park in a safe place as you're close to Mexico and takes less than an hour for car thief to cross south of the border.

Campground as pointed out by Tslick is a good suggestion, very close to the Pacific Ocean near San Onofre (nuclear plant) just north of Camp Pendleton (US Marine base).

Ok back on route 66 you hardly see another car. I'm sure most people take the much faster, much straighter I40 in this area.



Even though I guess many tourist must do the historical route, The tiny towns on the road all seem to have long been abandoned.



This section runs parallel with railroad, which was very busy. I must have seen 10 trains on my journey alone.








I reached the town of Amboy, I read this was the town in which the pixar movie Cars was based upon as it was the perfect example of the decline of the towns along the route since the instersate was opened.

Ha,ha...even dirty, your car looks good. Especially with the dusty backdrop of the terrain. Ahhh I do miss the open desert, moutainous areas. Bravo easty! Great pics!
