Default Supersprint X-pipe installed

Following other members' advice, I installed a Supersprint X-pipe recently. While I was at it, I also had the shop replace the secondary cats with straight pipes. Based on other's descriptions, I believe removing the secondary cats made a bigger difference in the overall sound level than the X-pipe. This is much louder than stock. Maybe too loud. If I'm gentle with the throttle, it's not much louder. It's definitely deeper and more authoritative sounding though. At higher revs at WOT, it makes a lot of noise. I can hear the echoes off anything nearby.

I'm not sure about difference in power. It feels more lively and the ESP seems to come on more often. But maybe it's the sound difference I'm responding to. I also lost 9.5 lbs overall as well.

I only had my cell phone for pictures with me. Sorry for the poor quality photo.

Congratulations on the new modifications, your going to love it more in winter when the car takes a while to warm up and it sounds like an F430 on start up but with a deeper and muscular tone.

I cannot vouch on the rest but I am more than happy with mine, the quality is top notch as like other things that come from Italy its guaranteed to be the best fit and finish.

There is a magnaflow x-pipe. http://www.slkworld.com/performance-...installed.html

I picked one up but have not installed it. It was $80. I think Eisenmann makes one, but it is $480. This one is probably the best.

I paid $580 for my Supersprint. The material quality is very good, equivalent to the stock exhaust. The Supersprint is made of 304 stainless steel. The fit is very good, but you must cut the stock exhaust at one end. It's not work for an ameteur. I went through 3 Saws-All blades making the cuts. A professional welder finished the job.

Uh...Italy is known for luxury goods, but not known for the 'best fit and finish'. Anyone in wholesale, manufacturing, or distribution could tell you that. Many of their massed produced goods can barely match the quality that comes out of China these days.

No doubt supersprint can come up with good products for their price, but Italy as a whole doesn't have that reputation.

Xopher

How is the sound with the removal of the secondary cats? A little louder / a lot louder?

J

Thanks Guys I just learned something I didn't know that the SLK55 had 2 sets of CATS --- my SL has only the one set mounted right after the exhaust manifold --- will you have any problem with passing smog inspections with them gone?

You can get a nice muffler from one of the tuners which could come with sport catalytics, so there for you wont have an smog emission problems.

Removal of the secondary cats made it much louder. You have to be gentle with the throttle when you don't want to make much noise. You (and your passenger) can really tell when you make minute throttle adjustments, even at low revs. But it's most noticeable above about 4k rpm. (Is that where the shorter intake runners kick in?) It gets people's attention. Everyone on the golf course I drove by the other day stopped and watched as I went by wide open. And it makes much more burbling noises when letting off the throttle. A little at low rpm and quite a bit at high rpms. I'm glad I removed them.
This sound assessment is with the top down. With the top up, it only seems to be a deeper tone at low revs but still appreciably louder at high revs.
