| Been reading through the threads, researching and what not. I keep seeing people talking about these Green air filters that they installed on their SLKs. I have two questions: 1. Are they referring to them as the Green air filters just because of their color, or is that their actual name? 2. With the modified air intake on the 2009 model SLKs (they've changed it to a single air intake from what I understand), will the Green filters still fit or does anyone know of which one I should be looking for? I'm admittedly not that techno-savvy when it comes to automotive engines, but I would like to take care of this new baby of mine, and from everything I've read in these forums the green filters certainly couldn't hurt. Thanks! As a side note: I've always driven V6 coupe sports cars, and have always used fully synthetic oil in them. I've heard some people say that you should wait until your 3rd oil change to switch from regular oil to synthetic, after the engine has had a chance to break in. Can anyone confirm this? My last car I only drove 1500 miles on it before changing the oil out and putting full synthetic in and didn't have any problems in the 3 years I owned it but I want to be doubly sure with my new MB. |

| 1. I don't have them, but by reading these threads, the Green Filters are green. 2. don't know. I believe all the SLKs use synthetic. Do you have the manual? It should tell. I don't think you will have to change since it is already synthetic. |

| Sounds good to me if that's the case. Don't have the manual yet, taking delivery of the car at the end of July. I wanted a Capri blue which for some insane reason dealerships here in TX never get in, always black and grey... . Just wish they hadn't discontinued caspian blue after '08 ![]() Thx for the reply ![]() |

| 1. Green Filters are Green, and that is also the brand name. I would suggest you visit their website. http://www.greenfilterusa.com/ 2. Not sure about this. It might take some time for an aftermarket parts supplier like Green to have a part developed for a new model. You could always call them.

| IIRC, jbanks15 used the Green Air Filters in his 2009 SLK 55 (so I presume it is the same for the 55 as earlier model years). I don't know what the air filter box is like on the facelift 300 and 350. Perhaps other members may post a photo and comment. Another way is to check/look for the OEM air filter number in the facelift model. If it uses the same air filter part no. as the prior year models, then Green Air Filter #2247 should fit. Pre-facelift R171 uses a pair of Green Air Filters.

| Aye I'll be checkin' the part number on the air filter, as well as whether I still need a pair of 'em or just one with the redesigned intake, as soon as I get the car. Air filters and oil changes are about the only things I've ever done on my own cars, but if I keep this one longer than 3 years (and I probably will since its the first time I've been able to afford a "dream" category vehicle) I may delve deeper into its guts if I can find enough step by step walkthroughs. |

Hey WhiteRabbit - I though I'd seen some pictures you had posted of your '09 engine bay, but cant' find 'em if you did... Was curious about the intake design on the "new" 350... | |

| Sounds like a good story to me! I love the fact that you can actually say "my engine matches my seats" ;P Looks like the air filters are the same as the legacy R171 - you've not tried greens yet, right? |

| From the pix, it looks like the same airbox except for the red band. It probably uses the same air filters.

| I'm skipping the green filters on this one. I installed them on my 06 SLK 280 and my average mileage dropped 1.5 mpg afterwards (I track my mileage in a spreadsheet). I know that is contrary to what others have experienced.
