The store has been closed recently, unfortunately.

You can purchase from greenfilterusa.com, part #2247, you will need to buy one pair, and it should fit R171 with the 280(300), 350, and 55 engines.

IMHO, the Greens are a little bit more "throaty" regards to exhaust notes. I recently inspected mine and noticed a caked and concentrated area of filter deposits. I am at 9,800 miles...well early of the recommended cleaning schedule. I also inspect them every 3 months. That said, your results will vary by area and driving conditions. So I am ordering the cleaning kit and will go at it when I get back from SoCal next week. For now, I tamped out the filters and turned them around so that the concentration of incoming air was through the cleaner end of the filters.

Can't speak knowledgably about K&N's. Sorry.

Hmm.... Wouldn't turning them around put the bad stuff on the side of the air flow that is trying to be protected and then the air flow will blow stuff off into what is supposed to be protected? Doesn't sound like a good idea to me...

That's not possible. There is a lip to the fliter edge so it can only go in one way. Coldshot has kept the dirty side on the outside face, by spinning it around, just like you would if you spun a plate on your table.

If you look at etyu's pics, you'll see the pipe comes up from the bottom on the pic with the pink filter. Coldshot's method assumes that the flliter will clog at the end nearest the pipe. So swapping top to bottom means the dirty air hits a different part of the filter.

My mechanic addressed this issue with me on my X5. He said the chance of damage to the MAF is dependent upon how close the the MAF is to the filters themselves. Not sure how close it is on the SLK, but with my X5 it right behind the filter, so I ended up taking out my K&N filter per his recommendations.

You need two of those barnabas. At least I did for a SLK 55. Search the forums if you have a different model. Lots of posts here on filters and installs.
