| Has anyone thought of or actually changed the intake on the slk55? I know Renntech makes a CF unit that looks like it is slightly larger and of course lighter but I think it costs over $1000. I have already changed to Green Filters. I have contemplated cutting off the plastic fins inside the airbox. I thought that might unrestrict the air flow. I have also considered revising the way the air enters the airbox or insulating it. What are your thought regarding this topic? Any suggestions?

| I am getting a CF one for mine as part of my upgrades i guess removing the fins inside the box should unrestrict the flow but i am not sure if they are actually vanes to control the flow that might me something to watch out for. I think the insulation idea is a good one if you can keep the air cooler then thats gonna be good for you but there is only so much of the box you can actually insulate without making the fit onto the engine tighter but i think insulating all you can is a great idea. Cheers Dan

| welcome back mate. Personally i would not bother with the ECU on its own really not enough gain to justify the cost

| Oh right OK well i don't think you will get any extra performance from it but the reduced weight of the box will help you along.

| You will get a performance gain. Just so you know the Renntech Carbon Fiber airbox is higher than the stock airbox. This additional volume area is how they extra a bit more hp out of the car. Unfortunately if you use thier supercharger you will be unable to fit the airbox due to clearance. DSB if you are going to get the supercharger (and you should) |

| OK i stand corrected but what are we talking here 2-3 BHP. Do you mean noticeable gains i know the reduced weight will make a difference but how much power gain are we talking

| actually I don't think the carbon fiber really reduces a lot of weight. That plastic is pretty light already. I think its estimated for 10 hp which is at the crank. |

First, I hope you join a few of us at Thunderhill on Oct 22nd. However, if you do, I will try to stay out of your sights. I fear getting too close to your car. Don't get me wrong; I don't fear your driving. I only fear my weak self-control. Once I get passed by you on a straight, I may have the ABSOLUTE need to get a supercharger. I'm a feeble, weak man. Maybe I'll just close my eyes everytime I hear you reeling me in!

| I checked the Green Filters website for filters for my 2007 SLK55. They only list filters for R170s, but I know there are R171 owners using them in their cars. Can anyone help? Thanks |
