Default For those with resonator removed...

I had my resonator cut off last week and the sounds is great at low speed. Around 3 to 4 thousands rpm it sounds like a mustang crossed breed with a harley. I loved it.
But, at full throttle, it seem like it's not quite as agressive as the car's sounds when the resonator was still on. I mean, when you have the resonator on, at full throtle, the car have this huge WHOOMP wall of sounds. Now ith out the resonator, it sounds like a steady built of RAAHHHGG sounds. Have you noticed this? Or is it that I'm so use to the loudness of the sounds now (with out resonator) at lower speed that when it does kick in at full throtle, I'm sort of desensitized?

Have you used straight pipes?

If you have that will explain the difference in noise and power output, X pipe is what you wanna use if you can mate.

Not quite as impressive as a straight pipe setup noise wise but the increase is over move range and the power output is not effected.

Yes, I used straight pipes. Where does one get X-Pipes? Are these special ordered or can the muffler shops make them? I do feel like my car pulsl a little weaker. May be going back to the resonators then...

Magnaflow X-pipe part # 10791 (part at top in pic below)...it's stainless steel and a LOT less than the Supersprint version.

Thank you, so how did you figure out that it would fit, testing and fitting in a local garage ?

If I knew that it is alot cheaper, I would of headed that way but let me just say that the SuperSprint's have been very great and the fit and finish is flawless.

I think the model I used was 10791. Yes, pretty cheap compared to most MB mods. It's has a nice sound... not too loud yet adds a pleasant rasp. IIRC, total with install was around $170-180. Of course, after seeing how quickly one could cut out the resonator and weld in the X-pipe, I think I overpaid for the installation. Oh well. At least I'm happy with the result.

Personally, I think straight pipes are just a little too loud and sounds monotone, only louder or quieter based on your rpm. Also, do you get exhaust drone?

I wonder what the engine sounds like without the Xpipe and and muffler? If CPD SLK ever gets his exhaust cut outs installed, we'd get to know.

Better yet...

Bill, how about asking the tech to fire up the engine when they cut out the resonator? Perhaps you could record it. I bet it would sound like a real monster.

DSB, it will sound like a Nascar as we've got nearly the same engine displacements and a Big V8.

True, well just enjoy the moment.

A friend of mine told me you could of bought a nice rolex with the price of the headers, I told him I know time is an important commodity but the headers are great since I can get it for a much cheaper price than I was quoted two years ago.
