When i went to speak with the guys at the tire shop here, he told me that i could roll the fenders, but it wouldn't make a difference large enough to clear Brooklyn potholes.

As for the 12-13mm spacers, that would be even worse on my setup because then it would be shredding the inner 25% of the tire instead of just the out as it was. I suggested that to the guys at the shop and he said it would basically blow my tires in a matter of a week... so no go there.

I am not sure on the offset on the CLK. can't remember the specs. But i did have to have spacers on the front tires on the CLK as well. Same exact spacers as the ones i have now. 10mm. Also had to grind down the rear lub bolts because they would tap the E-brake on the rear.

Sorry, my knowledge is limited here.

From what i can tell right now on loaner 225 with 265 on the rear, i do see a slighly better fit in the rear wheel well. The 265 filled the gap much better than the 255s did. The front 225 looks like its just right on the sports suspension.

As for the tire shape, yes they are more boxed than the Pirelli's were. which would contribute to the shredding.

Since i don't track the car, and do a lot of city driving now, i think a tire size that gives me the most bounce off potholes and road cones, and other interesting things you find flying around the FDR and NYC roads.

Not sure if i am crazy here, but maybe someone can explain this too: on 225 -255 setup i used to feel more "bounceback" so to say when straightline harsh braking. After smaking the brakes the nose used to dip, then bounce back to the rears. Now it feels as if that bounceback is a bit less. Is this due to the extra wheel size in the rear at 225-265 now?

I have 235/40/18 front and 265/35/18 in the back, and not a problem, and we have the same rims....

All those times we drove i never knew your tires were 255's. If u want, mount up those bad boys and ill roll by and throw my spacers on and see what happens?

I think it all comes down to the Sports suspension, and how much of a forward lean it puts on the front. If you remember, when we lined up our cars nose to nose, the difference in height and nose dip was completly different.



In the picture you can see how even though you have 235 you still have about 2 to 3 fingers space between the top of the fender and tire. And on my 225s i have just about the same space. Now picture your 235 on my setup rims and suspension... Visually you can cut the space you see between my fender and tire by 50% Which equals about 1 finder's width + a tad more. (sorry didn't actually measure any of this) But ratio is still constant.

correct me if im wrong, but it looks like your runnin R35's on the front, while I am doing r40's. That ratio should be back to about even, including your drop, you would think.


So basically what ur saying is if I lower mine i should be shredding tires?

Also remember the current tire and rim setup I have came directly off a 55, which cant be higher than urs.... ?

John, honestly at this point i have no clue other than the obvious.

Not sure about the 55's suspension setup, however perhaps although the 55 is not higher than my sports suspension, but may be stiffer. Which would bring me to thinking there is less pitch.

As for you lowering yours... you may or may not be shredding. Again i think it really depends on the difference in the drop front to rear. But seeing what i did with my 235s, i would rather be safe on 225s lowered. Also keep in mind the roads i am driving on now.... NYC, Brooklyn... makes NJ look like a playground.

When i frist drove them in NJ heading towards NYC, all i felt was the tiny bit of rub on K turns. Otherwise they were fine. Once i got over the GWB, it was all over for them.

235/35 on 19's, 18"s should be 225/235/40's. on the rear, I'm runing 265/30 and 18"s should be 255/265/40, the diameter of the wheels/tires should be close to factory 225/45/17's, otherwise the speedo will not be correct. Logically, that should mean the same height but from my experience and other's had confirmed, going from 17's to 19's will raise your car about 3/4 of an inch.

It's not odd at all if the width and offset of the rims are different. How wide are your front rims noregret?

Lenny, why do I have the impression that your front rims don't have the correct offset (ET number)?
With the correct offset you should fit the wheels without spacers and face no rubbing problems.
Have you checked that?

My fronts are 8.5 and rear 9.5

Offset should be the same as the CLK, however i can't recall the specifics.

I really have a feeling its the rims combined with the suspension that caused all this. As everyone else is running 235s with 18s 19s and lowered cars. So that must mean that my rims are at fault here.

Sadly i have what i have, so i guess 225 for me till i get new rims.

anyone intersted in the "slightly used" 235s?

they are really not bad. I took them off before major damage was done. Think of it as a 235 that was curbed. Can take pics if there is interest. Sell them REAL cheap! My loss, your gain

Sorry to hear about all troubles with the tires Lenny.

I was planning on switching my rears to 255/35-18 using the OEM 18x8.5 wheels, when the time comes.

But actually shredding chunks of the tire's outside. The tires where smacking the fender's edge on the front top. and Chunks were flying out. So now i have 2 shredded brand new front tires that don't fit my car!!!!!

Luckly i have hazard insurance on the tires and will be sending them both back for new replacements, which i then will have to find a buyer for.

I don't know if its my setup combination of rims, tires, sports suspension, spacers... All i know is that 235/40/18 DO NOT FIT FRONT TIRES!!!!!! < or at least on my setup.

Just some followup feedback regarding the new Eagle F1 All Season tires.

Overall i am very pleased with these tires.

Coming from PZero Nero & Rosso i have noticed a MAJOR increase in wet traction.
Cornering is very firm and responsive, car feels like its on rails.
Only had the traction control come on once.
Just as quiet as the Pirellis on the road.
Looks wise... they are much sportier from the rear due to the tread cut.

Again... i'm no tire expert, but the SLK does feel a whole of a lot more stable on the road.

Also another major plus is the decrease in banging from potholes! Since i live in brooklyn now, this is a huge plus for me.

19" 8.5F 19" 10"R

tyres 235/35F 265/30R

i been reading here about spacer but then it seems many dun recommand it.

Right now i am having both Front and Back with 12mm spacers! (supplied by carlsson)

issit possible to put spacer only on the front while not the rear?
