| That kit comes with the catalytic converters, mufflers and headers. I really cannot vouch on the other parts, but I have their 200 cell Kleemann sporty primary catalytics which come with the kit you reffered us to. I have their catalytics for a year now and I am very satisified with the results whilst combined with the SuperSprint/Carlsson X pipe, it sounds very loud at idle(when cold) but gets lower when the engine is all heated up. In manual mode it sounds loud, however if you keep it in S mode/Drive its perfectly normal until you step on it where it barks and is louder than the OEM Setup. I hope my insight is enough for you to consider before purchasing the Kleemann exhaust kit.

| Thanks alroumi, I do remember your posts about the X pipe! I am looking for headers also (of course this needs a new overall exhaust) and these had a slightly lower price than others I have found. Supersprint's headers and sport cats say they are "not for street use"??? |

| Yeah you have to be careful about that. If the parts are not approved for road use then that makes the whole car illegal, i believe they need DOT approval in the US but i could be wrong about the department involved.

| The whole exhaust system from Supersprint is illegal, said for track use only so I would check with Kleemann to see if it's street lega.

| I wonder why the SS arent legal, probably due to being much more free flowing ?

| It can be emissions or noise, normally for cat's its emissions and other parts noise.

Even here in Texas we are having to check exhausts and tuning (via reading the O2 Sensors). Have to move to a county where that is not required. | |

| why would it be illegal due to noise? there are many super cars + bikes that are a lot noisier than an slk 55 with loud aftermarket mods.

| You'd be surprised mate. A 3.5 V6 will drown out a 5.5 V8 with ease without the restrictions. Of course the noise don't hurt anybody but thats government for you.

| So chiwillia any updates regarding the purchase? I just wanted to inform you that the Headers cost less than 3,600 dollars and GMBH motorsports seems that it didnt update its pricing for a while now. I recently orderd the headers and I am hoping they will arrive in 2-3 weeks time because they are in back order at the current stage. Now according to C2D design who are an authorized Kleemann dealer (retailer) the KLEEMANN headers run $2895 without shipping and there is a substanital difference between the price listed in the link you provided and the one I recieved. If people want to get headers I think the time is right now as when I compared them two years ago they were slightly more expensive.

The whole cat placement thing has to do with emissions during startup/warmup. The further the cats are from the engine, the longer it takes them to heat up to the temp required for them to function effectively at reducing exhaust emissions. That's why moving them from their stock location results in an exhaust system not being certified for street use. Any jurisdiction that uses visual inspections as part of an annual survey will fail such a system on the spot, even if the car passes the "sniffer" test.

| Bill, when I was going to the super sprint total exhaust system minus the resonator [xpipes] I called Renntech and talked to Bob Bradly and asked why R/t didn't have a simulare setup as s/s because I had purchased there headers earlier on. Knowing I was going with there super charger. He basicly spoke about emissions and how the levels are measured differently from state to state and that why they only offer a cat back system. Well after the s/c was installed, brought the car to a whole nother level [98 more horses] I got the car back and that day you could feel the exhaust system's air flow felt restricted especially when I took her out on the highway and opened her up.[don't get me wrong that car kicked some serious *SS!! I just knew that it could perform better with a different exhaust system.] I wanted to make a change so I talked to my mechanic about some other options and it just so happened that s/s had just competed a totally R/D [research and development] on a full blown exhaust sytem for the SLK55 amg. [long story, just wanted to share.] Bottom line on the sytem being illegal and thanks for the explaination. My guy has a liscence from the state of Jersey to do car inspections too along with his own body shop [one stop shopping LoL]so ther should be no issues when it comes time to inspect the car in '09 of May
