Default Kleemann SLK 200

As you all know,

the 200 is somehow the 'poor relative' of the SLK family compared to the V6 and V8 engines. The 163 hp that MB offers, are limited.

I 'd lke to remind you:
Horsepower: 163hp/5500rpm
Torque: 24kg (178lb)/3000rpm
0-100: 7,9secs for my 6MT

So, i decided that it was time to boost performance a little bit and make my ride faster. After a lot of research i decided that i had to move with Kleemann

New numbers:
Horsepower: 210hp
Torque: 30kg (222lb)
0-100: ??secs for my 6MT (maybe 7)

Following from their site:
"Performance Kit contains a custom-made pulley set, high airflow filters and a K-Box. The pulley is CNC machined and the diameter is increased and precision balanced to ensure a long service life and full vibration dampening. A new belt idler and serpentine belt is also fitted to maintain OE specifications for belt tension and high-flow air filters reduce pressure drops inside the air box to maximize airflow.

The result is greatly improved power and torque throughout the entire engine operating range with crisp throttle response and perfect drivability. Power gains are as much as 20 percent both in horsepower and torque." Kleemann website.

Next thing will be:
-----------------
Kleemann headers
Quad exhast

Gregory, these look like great mods. Would it save on labor and purchasing costs if you did the Kleeman headers and pulley kit at the same time?

Yes, you have a point here...

I could save on shipping & labor costs. The price for the performance pack & the headers are not negotiable (i think) since they are on Kleemann's official price list. However, if bought both at the same time, i could have pressed for a better price.

I didn't go with the headers, because i m planning to buy them during Christmas.

It's a start though.

My optimistic (very) calculations give the following:
i. Performance pack (pulleys, k-box, sports filter) - 210hp total
ii. Kleemann headers - 230hp total
iii. Kleemann sport catalyst - 235hp total
iv. Quad exhaust - 240hp total
v. Bigger intercooler - 250hp total

Am i too optimistic?

When i finish with all these, i will dyno it.

Don't know much about the SLK 200, it might be possible, Kleemann is a reputable company, if that's the figure they gave you, then it should be close. Keep us posted.

Hello GregoryGR,
What is kleemann sport catalyst ?
I didn't find this information for R171 200K from their website or brochure.
Are you sure about this ?

Also the 5 stage you mentioned above I think is not correct. You can't get more hp with bigger intercooler. Bigger intercooler is used for preventing hp loss. It can helps you to get more closed to the 100% hp you have .
This is just only my opinion.
If I'm wrong, just correct it.

Thanks

Hi mate,

hmmm, nice questions!

As far as the question concerning Kleemann catalyst, check page no. 6 under exhaust section of the Kleemann pricelist.

As far as the intercooler question just check these links and read the comments of this guy! This guy saw 14hp (if i can recall correctly) improvement on the dyno Maybe i will have to contact him to ask more...

I personally don't think its a good idea. With the money you're going to spend on mods and installation, you can probably buy an SLK280/350 and have more performance with full factory warranty intact.

Dear GregoryGR,
Thanks for reply.
Sorry, I still couldn't find that in its website or new brochure. Can you directly show it to me ?(Maybe when you back home.)
From Kleemann website, I only can found that the maximum hp they declare is 230HP. No more than that. If they can get more, I think they will show that like MKB.

OK, I read the website you list.
Actually I think that 14hp is the power he should have originally. Because the weather in Bangkok is very hot(I had been there for work), he lost this 14hp which he should have. And with the bigger intercooler change, he got this 14hp back. This is my understanding.

Maybe someone who master in tuning can clarify this.

If you really want to get extreme power of your R171 200K, you shall choose MKB. I saw the technical data they declared is 250HP.
Have a nice trip !

To Addicted2Speed,
You're absolutely right.
No matter how hard the R171 200K tuned, it still cannot faster than a original 350.
Actually GregoryGR does not plan to buy a 200K and tune it. He already have a 200K.
Since he already have a R171 200K, this is the only way he can do if he want more power.
But tuning is a never-end way.
Like you, you already have a great car 55AMG.
But it still cannot satisfy you. You still tuned it to another state. I can't imagine a 55AMG car with 600HP!!! That's really amazing.

I think that would be the logical option in the states but other countries charge taxes by the engine size so it still might be cheaper to mod it. I believe they have to pay taxes on their cars yearly like our registrations, someone correct me if I'm wrong. Mod's are only a one-time fee.

Pre-owned SLK55 are going so cheap, I'm very tempted to trade mine in. But my SLK has sentimental values, I ordered it, anxiously waited for it to be build, picked it up in Germany, etc.. plus the main reason, I can't do it is b/c of the 6sp. I still prefer a clutch.

Thanks, just returned.

I have to contact this guy to clarify things...I m not an expert either on the intercooler subject.

About the kleemann catalog, i have the official pricelist 2006. I can't upload it due to it's size. I will figure out something else. On the other hand, our friend whateverbda has already bought the cats! So, he can also provide some info.

I have made a lot of research on MKB and i m not convinced... Moreover, for the 3rd stage that boosts up the car to 250hp the cost is about 13500 Euro.

You are really very optimistic my friend. Read threads in mbworld and see the dyno results, more than 220 hp will be a dream if you are not planning to twincharge the engine which is not tried and looks like impossible. An intercooler will not change your hp too much maybe help you on hot summer days in Greece, but overall adding 60-70 hp to your car will be great and you will feel the difference. Read Slkfans thread in mbworld , he did everything you (and I) desire to his 200 and results are like I tell you. There are many C class owners went for Kleemann performance kit getting similar numbers on dyno. At the end we should all agree on the same fact that tuning companies will not bring you the hps they offer but a Kleemann kit will be the wisest and cheapest choice for performance upgrade.

Thank you for the response, i will be very happy if the dyno shows 225 hp after all these mods... We will see my friend...

My main objective is to boost power a little bit and simultaneously be confident not to face any engine damage.

Kleemann kit is already installed!

Sorry, no photos of the installation, since the car stayed for over 5 hrs at the dealer, and i couldn't stay due to heavy workload...

After 50km (abt 37 miles), the car feels like i have a different car compared to stock! I did not pushed it high revs, because the dealer told me not to do so. He informed me that i should go a bit calmly at the beginning, so as to give the car some time to 'learn' the kit.

However, i tested it upto 3500 rpm - all gears - and the torque is endless!! In a bit slippery road the ESP turned on with the 3rd gear - 2000 rpm!!!
