Default Power-Converter

Kicherer is offering an electronic cable, which is very easy to install under the throttle pedal and is eliminating the "sleeping second" of the throttle.

A friend of mine has tested it yesterday and his summary: Good fun! You get the punch of your engine in each 10th of a second.

Questions to Mr. Florian Herre.

I thought about making a custom one of these but decided it would make parking and what not more difficult because it basically tells the ECU you are applying more throttle than you actually are.

In the end i made a change to the map to remove the lag in M1 and 2 and keep it in S so it could be used by the good lay around town without mounting curbs.

Yep Gero has it right the SLK uses a fully electronic throttle and to a certain extent an electronic brake system also in that brake pedal travel is detected at the master cylinder and from then on the computer takes over deciding how much pressure is to be used and what calipers to activate

The Power Converter is working equal to the "Sport-Button" of a BMW Z4. I´ve got a special price from Kicherer. If somebody is interested in it, please send a PM.

It is not working in a R170.

Excuse my ignorance, but what exactly does this product do? And what is the 'sleeping second' you mention?

Its a small amount of lag built into the first few % of pedal travel by MB the ECU uses this as a dead band allowing you to feather the throttle easy in traffic or when driving around town.

Products like this sit on the line between the pedal and the ECU and if we say the first 5% of travel is "mushy" this product watches for anything in this range and tells the ECU your actually applying 6% throttle so it responds instantly this gives the feel of better response but also makes for very hard driving when using your car in traffic situations

It works really well and the price is about 300 Euro plus shipment. My friend testet the converter in a E500 (Vaeth 5.5) of his father and he did not get it back, because his 69 year old father was delighted.

So, what is the difference between this and Sprint Booster?

Are you able to get it from the producer?

Just a request: would you please tell me your prename. It´s much easier for me to talk to a person with a name. (sorry, but I am 46 years old...)

Helpful as usual, Dan. Thanks for the explanation. I looked at the Sprint module (www.slkfans.com) and it seems it is only for auto trannys.

I´ve got from Kicherer the information that their converter works with automatic and 6 gear boxes.

If your doing a real launch, shouldn't make any difference, as you already have the pedal partially pressed to launch with engine at ~ 2000rpm or so.

All it does is "fool" you into thinking you have a faster car, you really just now have a "touchier" (sp?) gas pedal.

And if your're not careful your spouse will end up putting your "faster" car into the backend of the garage wall.
