| Hi DSB, Try this link on another site for photos of resonator and backbox internals. My Cats are still on. http://www.benzworld.org/forums/r171...ight=resonator Wallance - The resonator is the rectangular'ish box mid postion underneath , after the 2 cats. This can be replaced with either straight, H or X pipe designs. I have removed mine as the resonator design was a simple two straight pipe i.e no crossover, so little issues to worry about. I haven't removed the Cats as i was worried about backpressure and emissions testing.. The car is louder, and has run fine for 4K miles, and has been checked by Merc recently with no issues. Upto you on whether its right or wrong for yourself ![]() J |

| Great link! Thanks for the help. Now I'm wondering what it would sound like/performance gains from leaving the resonator in place and changing to high flow cats like these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT &viewitem=&item=8072416113&rd=1,1 I'd like to get an exhaust equal to/slighlty louder than stock yet get a racier note. I think these cats might do the trick plus MAYBE give a little more power. What do you think?

| Would any one know whether Black Series runs high flow cats too?

| May I ask for the part no. of that X pipe? Also, why did you choose Kleemann HFC instead of the ones from Supersprint?

| Yes, It drives better now and feels less restricted compared to when I first drove it of the lot (stock). I agree with Scoobysnack that after 2k it feels more alive and burbbles and pops quiet often.

| (Scoobysnack) ''It is only slight louder upto 2k rpm, but then does go much louder upto 5k rpm. Above this its sounds awesome like a diving plane crossed with a US muscle car .... To me it is loud but acceptable, as you can at times drive in a way to aviod attention if needed''. Could not have said it better mate!

Sure? They cost an arm and sticker price is 3,800 dollars without mufflers , X pipe or headers. I mean I got my Kleemann 200cell catalytics for 622.489 including shipping to Kuwait, which is a very very reasonable price.

| Alroumi, Now that you've had the cats and x-pipe installed for several months, what are your thoughts? Do you get any droning at any rpm speed? Any negatives or just all positive? I've heard a couple 55's with straight pipes and it sounds amazing. However, I think the X-pipe might be a better solution and possibly add power. Of course, going to an X-pipe, you can get unwanted droning. Have you experienced any?

| Dsb, I am sorry for the late response as its been a while since I have found a wifi spot here in south of italy were I am touring. The SuperSprint x pipe's are magnificent, since I was mixing and matching products from different tuners I thought I would have some drone assuming the lower rpms; however that doesnt seem to be a problem. When I got it installed in march it is obviously louder and more free flowing which is good and since it doesnt drone it seems to be as comfortable as driving a stock slk55. It gets louder once you nail it however in traffic or inner city congestion or slower speeds its perfectly fine. I hope I've helped in contributing with my experience and good luck with your final decision whether to de-res or to have the oem resonator.

| My thoughts on this are simple. If you plan on getting performance headers or cats ... don't replace the resonator. If you don't plan on getting headers or cats ... by all means remove the resonator. I used to believe that the mufflers were the main source of noise reduction on these cars but now I think it has been clearly proven (to me) that it is mainly the resonator. |

| Thanks fellas. I've just been playing with the idea of an exhaust mod. I'm going to have my B service performed soon then I'll probably do the X-pipe route. If it's not loud enough, then I'll get the cats replaced.
