Default help and concern!!!!!performance and other

so this is my first post...i probably wont be able to afford any mods for quite a few months...however i have questions about performance mods ive been researching...so if anyone can answer any of these questions with more concrete info if possible ...however it is a new post so everyone please help out.. thanks

1)any member of our have any mkb tuning products and if so which ones ? the ecu upgrade alone gets 34 hp sickkkk!!
www.mkb-tuning.de

2)how much do the stock wheels weigh ? and how much do the TSW bremma 19x8.5 and 19x9.5......also i was thinkin of maybe going with some volk wheels but the offsett is different and if i use adapter will the handling be different?

3)what springs should i use ? i was thinking eibach because they only lower aprox.. 1' so im thinking the 19's might rub if i go with h&r...and all the designer performance like brabus and those are frkn $$$ compared im sure they are sick thoughy anyway moving on

4)i know that many of you have the roof module ? i know its worth it buttt is it easy to install etc..?

5)does a custom exhaust sound like a bad idea? any ideas
i want everything to be lightwieght

also fyi im waiting to upgrade the sound when jl audio makes there new line of thin subs wow they aregonna be fkn amazing 2.5 inch mount depth.....im thinking two tens one behind each seat awww yess sweet.

Hello Benzosnenzos, I am here to help you set up a more enjoying SLK350.

I dont think the MKB gives the SLK350 34hp with just a Ecu upgrade, If the SLK350 has Turbos or a Supercharger unit then that might be believable, since its a naturally aspirated car I am figuiring 10 to 15hp maximum.

I would go for the H&R Springs to give you a more sportive ride and lowers it by 1.2-5 for that aggressive stance.

As for the exhaust youve got many to choose from to suite your budget or your liking. Over here we have got a few, Ynot has the remus mufflers, Lenny(NR4L) and N4PWJ got the Peicha Mufflers that look like the AMG Quad Mufflers with tailpipes. Ive got the Kleemann Catalytics and SuperSprint X pipe to be installed by Febuary hopefully. I dont think the exhaust is very important since the car is naturally aspirated and you will gain only slight improvments.

If I were you I would get a PowerChip ecu upgade or SpeedInovations ecu with GreenFilters.

WOW, you've got a lot of mods planned. Take your time and decide what's important and prioritize. The great thing is you can enjoy your SLK, as is, right now!

Congrats on your new car, you will love it.

On chip upgrades and 34HP, chipped your car will make some difference, but do be aware of how these are marketed.

There is really not much detail avail on the mkb site, but most certainly the 34HP increase is peak and at 6500rpm (vs 6000rpm for OEM). So don't count on a 12+% HP increase at real usable rpm.

You can't see much from the little dyno chart included, but you can take away some things.

The 34HP peak increase is because they continue to allow the engine to blow past the 6000rpm peak for OEM, at which point the OEM chip starts to reign the engine in.

However at this NEW peak HP point you will see the Torque is already declining (both on the OEM chip and even the mkb chip).

So the real difference you are paying for is the delta between the solid and dashed lines through out the rpm range. Which looks more like a 10 to 25 HP increase throughout the range.

The Torque increase is even less, especially in the middle of the rpm range.

Then then take those nums down again by about 15% for loss thru the transmission (maybe more) to get to RWHP.

I'm not saying don't go for it, just wanted to clarify the marketing number of +34HP versus reality.

Install is not difficult on the roof module. Just need some patience for the first time. Even for a non-technical person like myself, I was able to do the installation.

1) no, don't know anything about mkb. but speedinnovations is running a special for ecu reflashed for the SLK350. 15hp for $569, they give out free before and after dyno's, 34hp is not likely. 15hp is believable and you will feel a different in throttle response.

2)OEM weighs 27-28 (17"s) lbs IIRC, the 19's TSW are low 29-30 lbs, I believe. If you want lightweight, you will have to pay for some lightweight forge wheels like HRE, DPE's, iForged, DCR, forgeline, etc... Volks are light but they don't make any wheels for our SLK, you probably will not notice any difference with spacers, it'll add another risk if you push it hard. Should be fine for regular street driving.

3) Eibach's are sold as brabus here in the states, so unless you know someone from europe or asia, it's hard to order eibachs, a company will have to agree to ship it here in the states. H&R is a bit lower but if you get the correct offset and tire size, it should not rub.

4) Roof module is worth every penny and then some, it's a MUST HAVE, easy to install and you will enjoy your top up/down driving much more.

5) Custom exhaust isn't a bad idea, if you know a good muffler shop that can built you one. My problem with custom exhaust is that I might not like the sound. I'm happy with supersprint so I brought it, eisenhaus race exhaust is too loud and aggressive for me.

6) I'm not an audiophile when it comes to cars, I'm content with what I have, PM slktyperice, he has upgraded his audio system on the SLK.

1. a good job is making http://www.vaeth.com/ call "Yasime", or http://www.wimmer-rst.de/index.php (bad page - good job) ask for "Gesine".

2. -

3. take a Bilstein B16 PSS9 chassis. Springs are not enough - believe me.

4. the roof module is the best you can get, Piecha is selling them http://www.piecha.com/

5. the best sound for a 350 is the original exhaust from the 55AMG. But you have to shorten it about 12cm. Vaeth is doing that. The second best choice in my opinion is the Piecha Performance - good sound, very easy to install. (I have soundfiles for both, how can I send them?)
May be you install the Mercedes sport airfilter box first. It changes your 350 sound from a bear to a tiger up to 4000/Upmin. Good stuff!

6. good sound is coming from http://www.hub-car.com/

Ok so i am a sound freak. You said JL is making tens that are 2.5inch deep huh? Well this will be about the 6th time i have recommended these on this site. Blaupunkt overdrives, comes in 10's and 12's, and are only 2 INCHES deep. and by the way, they wont fit good behind the seats i already tried to have it done, due to the way I sit, it wouldnt have been wise for dmg or anything else. Unless you sit right on the wheel. BUt then if anyone ever moves the seat back they could dmg the sub.

OWL-SLK, could you tell me more about that Mercedes sport airfilter? Have you installed them? (Obviously they must be two for the V engine). Do you have any part numbers and prices?

And could you please send me those sound files at my email address?

Thanks a lot.

Hello,

a number I do not have, sorry. But is an original Mercedes part, belonging to the SLK Sport Package. I changed the filters inside, too. From the paper rubbish to k&n filters (those are two).

I hope, you see the open pipes. Inside there is a membrane. The price for the box was about 250,00 Euro, the filters cost 50,00 each.

Thanks OWL-SLK.
I'll have to check with my dealer to get the part number of the sport airfilter boxes.

The sound change came by replacing the standard MB air filter elements to the K&N ones, or there was a difference with just the sport airfilter boxes;

The price you told reffers to one box or both?

Hello Silk,

the price was around 220,00 Euro for the box incl. the paper filters. The series number of the sportfilter box is A 273 090 12 01. One box - two filters.

You do not need K&N filters to hear the difference. But with them it´s better. The Box is changing the pitch from 4000 U/min from a grumbling bear to furious tiger. With extra K&N filters the sound is changing at 3400 U/min.

I think, with the changed box and the K&N filters, the SLK is running better in the higher level. It is screwing (???) more free and so the 350 is reaching the 5.6sec. from 0-100km/h, Mercedes is telling in their broshures.

A good friend of mine is driving it with the original SLK55 exhaust extra, too. It´s an incredible sound. I have a soundfile from him. If you like, I will send it to you.

When you say that the sound turns from "from a grumbling bear to furious tiger" do you mean by that that it becomes louder but less deep? The change appears at high revs only?

I don't want to loose that deep growling (roarring) sound the V6 makes, I want to enhance and amplify it a bit!

Could you please sent me those sound files you have? My email is aggelos.aggeloudis@vodafone.com

Thanks again OWL-SLK!

Neither louder, nor less deep. It´s a different sound, more sportive - just better. (In German language I have the same problems to explain it) You´ll love it, too!

The files ar on the way.

I want (my engine) to screw more freely too.

Just kidding. Anyways on suspension, you can swap for a SLK55 suspension or H&R coilovers if you want too.

For speakers, if you have Audio20, then just rip the whole system out. It's all garbage. I have an amp so far running between my Audio20 and the stock 3-way components, so it plays the music nice and loud, but not nearly as good as aftermarket speakers. If you have the money, replace it with the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 with all the fixins (iPod, Bluetooth, XM/Traffic), a nice 2 channel amp, and DynAudio System 360's/DLS Iridium 8.3's.

DansSLK, can you confirm the exact speaker sizes? I looked in there and I think it's 8"/4"/1", but if you have exact specs, it'd be nice.
