It is a bit of an awkward procedure, but not one in which any clips need be broken. I don't know about you, but I always have a bit of a problem in "forcing" plastic bits, because you never know if you are "forcing" them correctly, or at what point they will break.

I noted that my "Greens" said they were for C 320s too, and I've got one that's 4 1/2 years old with no air filter change. If it is as dirty in the air box there as I suspect after seeing the ones on the 3 month old SLK, I need to change those and clean the boxes too. I figured out how to get the front part of the plastic cover off, and the "air tubes" too, but haven't figured out how to get the rear part of the plastic cover off.

Well, life is fun, isn't it?

Did not change to the Greens yet but I just tried to remove those 2 covers today. Yeah, you just have to do it once to realize it will be really easy the 2nd time. The only thing you need to watch for is those 2 small clips on each side in the back of the front cover because you don't want to pull straight up on those clips. I did slowly pull straight up the first time, and luckily it came off fine. I think when those plastic get old, it will become more fragile, so it's good to try it when it's new

. Now I know how to position it when pulling up

Everything else just pulls up and hose slide off. Thanks alot guys for preparing me for this

installed green filters today. i think taking off the 2 front hoses are the hardest, everthing else just comes right off. i notice that on the 350, there is an additional hose that connects in the middle with arrows. anyone know what it is?
btw, in reading through these tutorial, no one has mentioned about disconnecting this small tube before lifting the back cover and connecting them back when done with the install

"After removing the front piece and before removing the back piece (that contains the air filters), remove what looks like a vacuum hose at the front of the back piece first, then remove the back part."

It may not be in the tutorial as it is for the 55. IIRC, Ynot may have posted about the hose, it may be at a another forum.

I thought so too, two hose to be exact but don't recall if it's in this thread or not, too lazy to go back.

The hose that's on the 350 and 280 is the part load crankcase ventilation line, its hardwired on the 55 so the hose does not exist hence it not being the 55 tutorials.

KTown, You'd be very lucky mate because speaking as a dealer myself you open yourself upto a whole load of crap from both MB and the customer if something goes wrong.

Say a filter failed for example and damaged the engine, MB would look at it and say tough so then the customer turns to the dealer and blames them because they fitted it.

You might be able to convince one to do it if you get some sort of waiver that removes any responsibility from the dealer.

But for the case of 8 screws i would just DIY.

Just installed the green filters over the weekend. As many had mentioned in this thread, it is pretty simple , even for me who have never done any work harder than this one. Here are few pictures which were taken during the work. I hope it will be useful to those who like to have visual of the procedure.

Engine bay with the front plastic cover already removed and the back cover is loosed. There is still a zip tie attaching a hose with the back over which need to be cut.

As shown below, it is a black zip tie attach the back cover to a hose

Engine bay without the covers/airbox, it is pretty amazing to see that a big heart is fitted into a rather small car!

few screws later, you have the airbox removed, lots of crap in it!!!

same goes with the other side!

reverse the order and put everything back into the car, as well as new zip tie (in white)

Done in 30 minutes, time to enjoy the new green filter. I also gave it a quick wash to the car at 3 degree C, that was cold!

The engine is definitely more lively and the car has better response to the throttle.

I will see if the milage will improve in the next few weeks.

Smart module is on it's way and will be the next item to put in, just in time for the summer!!

I just installed the Green filters yesterday. It was extremely simple. With the 2005 SLK350, you do NOT need to remove the coolant hose that attaches to the passenger-side (on USA/LHD vehicles) air intake. Just leave it attached, and detach the air intake hose from the air intake box (on the rear engine cover). I detached the hose by pulling it off the air intake box on the rear engine cover, rather than the end of the hose toward the nose of the vehicle.

And yeah, the whole thing takes about 10 minutes. The hardest part for me was getting the rear engine cover back on properly. I just had to fiddle with it for a bit, but it's pretty simple.

I also had quite a bit of build-up in my intake. There were whole bees packed in with leaves and dirt, pine needles, etc. It was like a pancake of crap shoved in my intake. I shop-vacced it all out, and replaced the filters. Oh, and the fact that my car swallows bees whole really gave me a laugh for sure. I think I might name her "Medusa."

I have definitely noticed an improvement in performance. The car revs freely and much more quickly now, I probably gained 0.3 secs on a 0-60 run. I mean, I can seriously scream through the first 3 gears in about 2-3 seconds flat (and I have a manual).

Haven't driven it long enough to check gas mileage, but I do notice an improvement on the cluster. My last tank averaged 18.5mpg in mixed driving (I like to play sometimes). Will update with new mileage when I have it.

silly question, but I had to ask, when I try to buy from greenfilterusa.com, (2247), they don't make it clear if I have to add 2 or 1 item to cart. Can someone clarify before I checkout ?

2247 qty: 1 , does that mean 1 pair ?

I haven't ordered from them directly, I would think you need quantity: 2, especially if the price per item is around $60. Occasionally they have free shipping. Do they have an 800 number to call or perhaps email them?

So let me get this right, a green filter does not change performance - it increases gas mileage an extra 2-3mpg.

The cost of 2 filters is roughly $120 and at $3.50/gal it will take 4000 miles to just break even on the cost. I suppose if it is your daily driver it is a good deal but I personally put very little mileage on my weekend car (under 5k per year).

So I will pass if it does not make a substantial improvement in power to affect the FUN FACTOR

My daily driver is a smart car that gets combined 38mpg, so the SLK will remain stock for now. Heck 0-60 in under 6sec is pretty darn quick and puts it in EVO and WRX speed demon territory.

Don't forget the cost of replacing the paper filters. And it does increase performance a bit -- people claim 2-3hp. It definitely feels "peppier" then before.

Someone did a dyno of the results, and I think he got about 3 more horses, but it's kinda hard to feel all that extra power

, yes it does improve gas mileage, and sounds a bit sportier (louder) than the OEM paper filters. Those OEM paper filters looks cheap, I would not want them in my car. You can re-used the greens over and over again, you can't with the paper filters.
