| I have a 350, so those pics comes from my 350. you will not break anything, the hoses slide right off, pull straight up, start from one end to the other and the metal clip should just come right off.

| Ynot, it seems that the SLK350 also has a 2 piece airbox cover? and that you also lift out the front piece first similar to the SLK55 cover? Your pic in the beginning of this thread only shows the main cover, right? Thanks for any clarifications. |

After removing the front piece and before removing the back piece (that contains the air filters), remove what looks like a vacuum hose at the front of the back piece first, then remove the back part.

| Thanks Eddy! So I can just lift the front cover off, right? Yes, I believe there are 3 hoses that need to be pulled off, 2 big ones on both sides and one small one in the middle that you described that is located in front of the back cover. Aren't there clips that connect these hoses? Ynot mentioned that they can be easily slided off. I wonder what keeps them tight enough if they can come off so easily ? Sorry for these simple questions but I haven't try it yet since I plan to change to Green filters after I do the service A in April, but I did order them before the price go up in March in SLK store |

The 2 large hoses are the air ducts that lead from the front of the engine to the back piece. These can be removed by twisting the back part towards the front of the vehicle with you standing at the front of the vehicle. Do the left side first (left side as oriented with the driver seated inside the vehicle, driver side in left-hand-drive vehicles). Notice the hoses have corrugations or circular rings or accordion that allow it to be compressed to effect removal. After freeing the back end, the front end can be removed by pushing on the tab at the top and twisting side to side. There is another tab on the lower portion but the air hoses should come off by just releasing the upper tab. On the right side air hose (350 and 280), I believe there is a clip that holds a small overflow rubber tube leading from the radiator to the cooolant reservoir. BE CAREFUL REMOVING THIS CLIP. They break easily. Here's a link to how I replaced mine (see post #11 and #13ff):http://www.slkworld.com/general-modi...slk-280-a.html The air hoses are held in place mainly by friction on the rounded end and by tabs on the oval front end. The front decorative piece just lifts up. Lift from the middle part first with mild to moderate force and it will release the front end of the front piece. Do not lift way up or you'll break some clips. Next gently lift from one side of the front piece (towards the back of the front piece) to release a clip. Then work on the other side. Once the back clips have been released, slide the front piece towards the front of the vehicle and the whole piece should come off. Here's a link on my post about breaking the clips: http://www.slkworld.com/amgs/4227-bo...oke-clips.html

| Thanks for the details Eddy! Now I am afraid to break those clips even though the cover can still be stable without them, I would still feel bad (kind of the same feeling I get when I scratched the bottom of my front bumper). So looks like the front cover is similar to the one in the SLK55. May be I should try Bill T's method of removing the 2 covers as one piece. Last edited by toySLK; 02-23-2008 at 11:37 AM. |

| As a future new owner of the 55, will I get any grief from the MB dealer if I change to the "Green" filter? I wouldn't think so, but are there any warranty issues? |

I put the factory filters back in when I take it to service and tell them not to change it b/c my K&N's were taken (long time ago) and replaced with factory ones, I didn't notice until six months later when I took it out to clean. I'd complained but they dealer did nothing. It was my fault too for not noticing until much later, it happened to a couple of my friends as well. I'm not afraid of warranty, I'm afraid they might take it.

If you break them, no biggie. Just apply some weather strip foam instead to dampen any vibrations as shown on the aforementioned post about breaking the clips.

![]() Ynot, do you have a secret technique of removing the front cover of your 350 ? How come you never mentioned breaking yours. I remember you recommended just pulling up the cover and you said it won't break anything ? or was that just the back cover? | |
