Just installed my Green filters.

I'm not sure which will help performance more: The added airflow or the removal of half a pound of sand in the air box!

As a true testimate to the airflow of these cars - I also removed some rather large leaves.

Only tricky part of the install in my mind was getting the donut from the airbox back onto the inlet of the intake manifold. I found that seating that first and then lining up the "clips" was much easier.

I'll take it for a spin later tonight to see if there's any butt-dyno results to detect.

The first generation module does draw power more than the SmartTop module. I've never had such a problem but then it may be because the car is driven almost daily. The longest period between drives was perhaps 4 days.

I believe it may be an issue if you have the car "stored" for winter for more than 4 weeks without a battery tender, plus cold weather decreases the efficiency of the lead-acid batteries.

I've noticed that the car revs much easier after the green filters and reaches 4000 to 4300 rpm sooner.

I know I may sound stupid, but exactly will I gain with this green filter over the stock one?

Also does anyone know if it will fit the SLK 200?

On the 5.4 L V8 (C55 AMG) it gained around 3-3.5whp if not mistaken, So I think you will gain around 2-3.

Since you have got a SLK200 I would suggest you to go for Any Drop in filters such as Green, K&N's or BMC's with a Ecu upgrade and Pulley kit that will get you around 30-40hp with the Modifications I suggest you to do.

It died a little after two weeks, I knew it when I opened the door and the interior lights didn't lit up. I've had it in the garage for two weeks several times with not problems. Yes, it was below freezing the whole time it's been in the garage that might be why it drained so quickly compared to before. I don't have it on a battery tender charging the battery, it's at a friend's house.

On FI cars, it's been dynoed to show a few hp, on NA cars, you don't really gain any hp per se, but sounds a bit better and sometimes it feels like it revs better as etyu indicated. Add the filters with a header, exhaust, and ecu re-flashed, gives it more air and yields better results (hp, throttle response, revs). Definately worth it for the cost.

My primary reasoning for upgrading was never having to buy another air filter again. I'll tell myself its to keep air filters out of the landfills but it's really more about being too lazy to go buy new filters. When the mood hits me, i can just pull/clean/oil and I'm in business. I've used K&N on every car I've ever owned - so I've been in that habit a long time. The Green filter is the same concept - just different coloring in the oil

Wow! The Digi-Tec has a 320hp/430Nm tuning kit for the 1.8 litre VAG motor. That would be something for my SLK200K.

Just started at 20000 miles. When I let car set for 3-4 and start engine Left Bank has a "puff" of smoke

I had same issues with the old small chevys did when they got 30000 miles. Hope this is not the start of valve train problems.

Anybody else with this issue after letting car set for 3-4 days?

Not uncommon.

Unless it gets worse don't worry about it, you wanna see them after they have been sitting a while.

Got my Green filters today (Thanks, ///AMG 55), installed them (about 10 min. or less. Thanks, Ynot) and went for a short drive.

Dan if you were to find a car in the shop with these filters would it void the warranty. That goes for the Piecha exhaust also. What would be the UK dealers take on these mods if he finds them ?.

For those of you interested I have the SLK 280 Sport and have taken the Air Filter off. There are standard paper filters in it. The sport air filter is a myth.

What is different is each air filter housing is like an audio speaker tuned pipe with a meshed hole at the far end of the intake at the end of a cone, so air comes in from the engine and from outside, a lot more from outside. Then opposite the paper filter in the main plastic housing is a large rubber like diaphragm again similar to something used in a base reflex audio speaker. My thoughts are that they have tuned the sound inside the car acoustically, very clever !!

Only other thought is I wander how long the diaphragm will last.

Well if i personally saw a car with greens or a piecha part then no i would not void the warranty and i doubt any of my employees would either because i think its only fair to let people work on cars without punishing them and the green filter company have been around for ages and test products well as do piecha so i am confident in the abilities of the products to do the correct jobs and not any harm.

If on the other hand i had a car in with say a MAF that had been replaced with a non OEM MB or Bosch part (both the same just different branding) and that part had damaged other components i would still not void the warranty but would refuse to carry out any warranty work on the affected components because i would need to send the replaced parts back to MB and they would see they are not designed for the car and charge my shop for the new parts.

I think most dealers would either refuse to work on the car under warranty and make you pay for the parts but not the work (this is an easy warranty claim that requires no feedback unlike the parts that must be returned) or void your warranty completely and then you would be required to pay for any work to your car no matter what MB dealer you use, you do of course get good ones who see things the way we do and wont mind at all so long a the work has been done to MB standards and good quality parts are used.

The only tuner who you will still have full warranty protection with is Brabus because if any of parts break that the MB warranty no longer covers (modded parts) break then they will cover the cost unless you have had the mods fitted for over 2 years.

Thanks Dan for the reply, I am going to do the Green Filters first and then inquire if my local dealer will fit the Exhaust. The Green filter of course can come out prior to service but the exhaust of course needs to be cleared.

I am not planning on doing anything else to the car so hopefully I will get just this extra mod.

Ready, the work is done. The filters fitted perfectly in the box of my 350.

Thanks especially to Ynot for his very good instruction at the beginning of this thread.

The recommended change of the air filter is at 80,000 kms. But now look at this bull****, the car has only gone the half of the distance.

The same quantity of sand and leaves in both boxes.
