Default SLK 350 replacement Brake pads & rotors

Hi,

I was on a trackday this weekend (first time with my SLK 350).
It was nice but it seems to me that I kinda burned my brake pads or discs. When I am braking now, there is a horrible sound like the pads are worn (they are not, there is plenty of them left, both front and rear).
I would like to get the new pads and/or rotors, but I would like to get some aftermarket ones (possible better ones, cause I am planning to do some more track days).
So, can you reccommend where to get them, and which brand to buy. I tried to find Brembo but it seems thery don't have pads and rotors for my car (they have the whole kit with calipers, I don't want that).
I would first try just with new pads, if the sound remains, I would get some new discs.
And one more question:
What about the brake wear sensor? Does it come with the aftermarket pads? (by friend got Tarox brake pads for his Golf GTI and he got the sensor and the wire with the brake pads)
So, which brake pads and/or rotors do you reccommend for SLK 350 (year 2004) and where to get them (possibly online...?)

OK, it seems I'll be chatting with myself...
I've been searching the internet and managed to find some brake pads...
EBC!
Now I have the question
I saw that EBC offers different front brake pads code for SLK 350 MY 2004-2006, and another code for MY 2006+
So, did Mercedes change the brakes (calipers, discs) for SLK 350 2006+?
It offers the same code for the rear brakes for bot 2004-2006 and 2006+
I guess Dans would know this one
Regards

not sure if they did make any changes but I would not put anything made by ebc on my car. It's really budget low end rubbish.

try to get some performance friction z rated pads to go in there. You might need to send them an old pad so they know what they need to supply. Failing that look for ferodo DS2500 or perhaps pagid RS421s (also called pagid blues).

The calipers are already made by brembo and are used on many different cars, I am sure performance friction already sell a suitable pad but for another car, without even realising it.

Absolutely agree with adamantium, EBC are for lawnmowers. Im a PAGID fan and I tended towards RS42 the pagid blue as the best road/ track pad.

Legin,

I used to agree thinking they trumped the DS2500 for everything but cost, which is why I often ended up with the ferodo, but if you haven't had the opportunity yet to try the PF z rated, do so at the first opportunity. They were better in EVERY way and cost next to nothing in comparison. Awesome brakes, they truly feel like a different technology, and no noise/corrosive dust.

That said, I haven't tried them at 10/10ths on a track day yet.

I know with the 2005 SLK 350 they made what they call a chassis change. The earlier 2005 had a different brake pad in the front then the later 2005. For the Akebono Euro pads the earlier version took EUR847 and the later version through 2009 take the EUR1121. The 847's are longer and narrower and the 1121's are more square looking.

I will certainly try them if they do an AMG fitment, I dont track the 55 so my requirements are somewhat less demanding these days Im more concerned about dust.

Hmm, the problem is I cannot find neither Ferodo nor Pagid brake pads for my car...Cannot find the catalogue on their page! Can you help me with giving some ordering codes?
So, can you fit the original 05/06 pad to the 04/05 model?

Yeah, just buy new pads, don't change discs. Call mercedes benz and quote a price, or go to a brake shop to get them to take it off and order new pads which are similar or in the similar specification.

I changed my pads at 20,000km because i did some serious driving. Then the new pads some how lasted 30,000 = 50,000km and i recently changed the whole disc + new pads, all done by mercedes of course, (I have a 2006-2007 SLK350 btw).

On the website brembo will say they sell it as a whole kit, but i'm sure you can order the pad only through a supplier.

Regards,

Joey

Default rear breaks sensors SLK 350 2006

Hello fellow members.
Recently I replaced my rear brake pads on my SLK 350 2006. I was surprised to find no sensors on the rear brakes. Is that normal for this year and model or I am missing something? I bought this car used. I am a second owner, so I don't know if they did some work on rear breaks before me.
Thanks for your thoughts and help.

joebajoe,

Welcome to SLKWorld.com: The #1 Mercedes-Benz SLK Forum from Valrico, Florida!

Please update your location/vehicle (model and year) in your profile as it helps the members answer your questions which usually are based on that information if you haven’t already.
‘Usercp’ at the top left of page, then ‘edit your details’ on the left side, ‘additional information’ near the bottom, edit your ‘location’ and ‘vehicle’. Info in your ‘garage’ does not update your ‘profile.

Don’t be shy. Post an introduction in the ‘New members introduce yourself here’ section, if you haven’t already. http://www.slkworld.com/new-members-...yourself-here/

owner's and maintenance manuals great R171 info:

Want to post a picture? Start a new thread or make a post, click ‘edit’, click on the ‘paper clip’ or ‘advanced’ and/or ‘manage attachments’ then ‘choose file’ then ‘upload’ and ‘submit’! If Iphone pics, you need to rename any additional pics as Iphone names its pics all the same, image.jpg.

There is only one sensor and it is on the right front brake.
