I have had a pulley upgrade and remap performed on my 2002 32 AMG.
After driving it for a while I've decidedthe increase in performance was not what I hope for... So, I contacted the dyno dude and he said I needed to use the highest grade fuel I could get as otherwise the performance would be affected, by quite a lot. Can the fuel grade affect the hoped for performance by so much?
Also, he couldn't give me a new bhp figure as the "torque converter" kept kicking in. He tried to explain this in more detail but to be honest, he lost me quite soon after he started... Any comments on that anyone?
The R170s were designed for premium. You should use it regardless of the remap. ...$.02

Thanx.
Sounds suspicious... Dyno tuning is a matter of just accelerating to wide open while your car is strapped down with the drive wheels spinning a large drum. Automatics are not diffiicult to dyno but maybe he wasn't sure what gear to use for 1 : 1 gearing. (Preferred for best power Xfer) Maybe he is trying maintain TC lockup, but you should get a printout of HP and Torque vs RPM either way so you can see what he is talking about. You will see the line deviate where ever the TC is acting up...

Doesn't the R170 do just like the R171 and stall out on a dyno when it does not detect the front wheels moving?

there is more to dynoing a slk32 than just gassing the engine.
if the intial mph is to low the torque curve will take to long to come in. rev the car to high (close to redline ) in 4th gear and the ecu shuts the car down OR shifts it into overdrive. the best way to dyno a 32 is set the intial test run to 105 mph to 140 mph. this will allow torque to come in and stop the test just before the ecu gets fussy. a tuner needs to willing to make a few test runs before looking for a dyno run. i needed 5 runs and allow cooling inbetween to get a solid printable graqph and decent numbers. esp turned off and manually shifting from 2 to3 to 4 stopping test at 5980 rpm
oh and just so you know it can be done my 5th run netted 321 rwhp and 317 ft/lbs torque on a stock engine.
