I've noticed that a few members mentioned watches as their "other toys" or something they either would or would not be buying as a part of their New Year's resolution. I would imagine that people with passion for German engineering would equally be interested in mechanical marvels of fine watchmaking. Does anyone care to share their interest in watches? I have a Breitling Superocean I bought about six years ago and I absolutely love it - I practically never take it off my wrist. The stainless steel case shows some signs of wear but the quartz crystal is absolutely flawless and I can't even count how many times I banged it against something. This may very well be the only watch I'll ever need.
speaking of watches, has anyone seen the new cabestan watch? I know it's not unique in it's 'engineering' but i think it's the best looking one so far....
Oh my gosh! I would never date a guy with a watch like that. I would be too afraid to get close; my hair would get caught. Not only would I get mad cause it hurt but he would get mad cause he spent all that money on a watch that is no longer useful!
Omega's for me, i got rid of some of the 'redundant' models i had so at the moment i have a certain limited edition Seamaster Pro Chronometer in titanium with a black face and another in silver with blue also have a Speedmaster Pro moonwatch.
I have a 2003 Gold / Black faced Breitling Navitimer with the semi-rare white gold/yellow gold mixed-link band. Picked it up at Atlantis in the Bahamas as a reward for a particular successful Vegas outing. That was Valentine's Day weekend 2003. It is my daily watch, but I take it off when helping anyone with sales efforts. Also do not wear it on the golf course to protect the motion. The crystal has not a mar or nick on it after all this time. Great watch.
EDIT: I should mention that as the years past and times got occasionally tough (I gave up 5 figure gambling weekends a while ago), I did think about selling this “extravagance”. My one-of-a-kind, limited edition wife would never let me do it. I never understood that. You can LIKE a thing – even a lot – but never does that compare to what you LOVE. My watch would have been gone on eBay in a second for my family. In fact, that’s why I took this photo a couple years ago. The wife wouldn’t let me sell it. Good wife, yeah?

I love watches and I've got a few neat ones too,
My latest Acquisition is a Zenith Defy Classic Rose gold with steel bracelet and I absolutely love it for its sport chic appeal. My other watches are the following:
Bulgari Carbon Gold limited edition 463/999 then later one modified with a Alacantra strap with matte black.
Omega Speedmaster "The Legend" Schumacher edition 793/6000.
Here are some pics of the Bulgari with the alacantra strap
Zenith:
Other watches that I also have are:
Technomarine steel with ruubber band
Tag F1 red face with red rubber band.
Tissot Moto Gp.
My "grail watch" is the Audemars Piguet Royal oak automatic Black face, Rose gold with honey "chocolate brown" leather strap.

Casio, yes casio. I wore them for years. I still have one I wear at night, it has an alarm. In the years past, I acquired four Rolexes, which I currently have three. My favorite is a steel and gold Submariner with a beautiful blue dial. My wife has two steel and gold. Excessive, only in number. I purchased all used, at great prices. I also bought a used 18K Patek Philippe which I gave to my brother in-law.

Don I salute you for you great taste the Two tone Submariner is very classy, I really like that model which is a classic/vintage look that will be timeless I hope. The Blue dial on the Submariner is superb, its reasonably priced compared to the watches of our present time that have complicated movements and other fine material which distinguishes its look.
I would love to have a Rolex someday, if I was going to buy one the new Deep Sea 43mm model GMT 2 looks very nice.

My interest in mechanical clockworks has roughly started 15 years ago, when my old Seiko 5 didn't work properly anymore. So there was a need for a new one and I checked the offers, prices and designs. I perceived that there are conspicuous differences in pricing. The reason for it? Name of the watch's manufacturer, do they develop and offer there own clockwork, complication of the clockwork, ...
I bought my watches depending on design, plain and well readable, and their mechanics.
The first following the Seiko 5 was a Schwarz-Etienne "Airport 2000" with a ETA/Valjoux 7750 clockwork with stop function, date and day indication.
Next was a Buhren, ETA/ Valjoux 7751. This watch has additionally a full calendar with month and phase of the moon.
Moreover there are two Du Bois, one with a silver housing, and of course the Omega Speedmaster Pro, the Moon Watch. So these are all mechanical watches and swiss made.
In the beginning of this year I have purchased in the US a Citizen Promaster Land with that new solar driven ECO clockwork. (Japanese and electrical)
On the picture below: Seiko, Schwarz-Etienne, Buhren

Good wife! I have a good one, too. A couple passes through hard times can reveal the true nature of a person. It's nice to know you have a good one by your side.

On the watch front, I have several, but no spectacular ones. As a pilot, I obsess about time and my favorite is a cheap Seiko titanium. I have a couple automatics, but the cheap quartz mechanism keeps the most reliable time.

nice topic.
have spent a serious amount of time on this hobby in the last twenty
years or so.
i believe i am now at a point where i start understanding the principles
of a complicated automatic engine, and although not a watchmaker
by certification, or anything close, i can self assemble and disassemble
automatic engines of fair complications. repeat, my involvement is only
a hobby, nothing more.
and in case you might think to yourselves that i am slow (or stupid,
or both), do consider first that, it does take a little while before
you can achieve a respected level of basic understanding of automatic
engines (of course i may as well be slow, or stupid, or both).
there are lots of interesting timepieces on the market with designs
for every taste, and some of them also have spectacular price tags.
don't believe i could sport many of them on my wrist though, as
i consider myself as rather conservative, and don't like extravaganzas.
for example, i could never sport an oversize watch, which is the trend
of the market lately...
happy to see that many members here share the same passion...
my current line-up is of only 8 watches, all divers except of one
pilot, all bought new, and all keepers for one reason or the other.
i don't really enjoy selling away anyway...
