So next time you buy "new" tires - not just for you SLK, but for any vechicle you own, be sure and check the build date!

Thanks Bill, very informative. Just checked mine:

LF 1107
RF 1107
LR 2407
RR 0407

At least the date of manufacture is on the outside and not on the inside sidewall.

I always check the date of the tyres before I purchase them, I noticed that local shops over here give you the cheaper or oldest dates if your looking to haggle with the price.
