Default just checked in to say hi!

hey all!

i am still taking some dives in amorgos, and thought i'd drop
in to check what's new, and if all is now ok after the latest events...

wife and i are daily enjoying a wonderful island and a breathtaking
underwater scenery at a diving location more or less made famous
by luc besson's 1988 film ''le grand bleu'' (= ''the big blue'').

for those more interested, here's a link to the dvd at amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Big-Blue-Direc.../dp/B00004TWZF

...in case you get it, please make sure the copy you order includes the
original music score by eric serra, which is a masterpiece on it's own.

i will be checking in occasionally to see if any news, and will be back
to athens to take delivery of my new r171 (which btw has already
arrived and is ready to be taken over) in about ten days...

till then...

take care!

ciao

Well, isn't that great planning, waiting all these months for the car and when it arrives you're on holiday! I almost did the same thing, mine arrived on the day we were flying back to ATL, got the news in the Minneapolis airport, picked it up the next morning.

thanks guys,

yes it was a bit of bad timing after all the wait for the new car,
but not much we could have done otherwise. you see, wife and
i planned these holidays a lot earlier, we are on the island with
friends, all of us had to file for vacation leaves with our offices
some time earlier this year, and on top of that, the car got
delayed due to an unexpected three week strike wave in greece,
truck drivers and customs officers included, that brought car
imports behind schedule (and the rest of the economy bleeding).

anyways, we needed the time off, and it is so nice to be on this
island, with beautiful weather and sun and sea and dives, and
great food, and good friends, and the car will be waiting for us
when we're home! what else could we be asking for?

here's a link to the overture of the big blue, you can get an idea
of the scenery around here. the village pictured at 3:30 is called
''chora'' and is were we stay:

for mohammed:
also posting a vid at the usual thread, have a look!

kind regards from amorgos,

funy that you should mention this... I was just listening to that soundtrack this WE in the SLK... I have seen this movie 7 times and that was before DVD's, meaning I went 7 times to a theatre and paid the ticket 7 times. I was nuts with diving at the time...

Enjoy the islands and don't think too much about the car waiting for you. To each time their pleasure.

thanks your last,

yes, we are thinking of including a small southern part of germany coming in from switzerland, something like:

one night in freiburg i.breisgau, and then through the schwarzwald, to titisee-neustadt, to friedrichshafen, another night in munchen, then through garmisch-partenkirchen to switzerland direction davos and sankt moritz before spending the next night in lugano, but we need to have a couple more days off from work in order to do the extra mileage, and we don't know if we can extend our leaves yet. if we don't, it will be just to much, and we will stick to switzerland only.

where are you located in germany?

I am living in Geneva, so please do let me know when you are around and I will be happy to meet and even show you a few places around.
The rest of your trip to Germany and Switzerland sounds good too. September is a nice time for road touring. Less traffic and still some nice weather around here, and not too hot I should add, which is important for driving top-down...

All the best.

keroubim,

that sounds great,

we would be more than happy to set up a meet in geneva,
if dates are suitable for you too.

i spent five years studying and working in freiburg im breisgau,
by the late '80s early '90s, and also lived and worked in montreux
in the mid to end '90s, so i am quite familiar with the area, and
always love to come back there...

soon as we are home from our present holidays, and pick up the
new car, we will start organizing the september trip.

will revert with dates and final routing soon...

My wife and I live in Kaiserslautern Germany. Let me know if you pop over from Switzerland. We're always ready for a road trip and the Bavarian region is only a couple of hours away for us. Just give us about a week or so notice and perhaps we can meet up somewhere?

steve,

if more enthusiasts show up till end august-mid september, we could
even set up a european slkworld meeting somewhere in the swiss north
or the german south, say in zurich, or basel, or some town in the
schwarzwald area, or in munchen?!

sounds too ambitious?

Mid-Sept would be perfect! I have blocked out 5-7 Sep for the Belgian F1 so anytime after that would be great. Any other takers out there? Ir-Ops I'd be happy to work this with you!

Kevin, are you interested in assisting?

hi there,

august is so hot in athens, get out of it soon !

jokes aside, you have to visit the acropolis, and the new museum,
if this is your first time in athens, and take a walk around the plaka
and the adjacent thision pedestrian areas, preferably in the evening,
and depending on the date and your available time, i would also
strongly recommend you to book a night at the open theater of
herod atticus, right under the acropolis which stages various events,
from ancient greek comedies/tragedies to dance, to opera, etc, etc.

for dinner, i suggest either the restaurant on the lycabettus hill,
featuring some spectacular views of the city, or a couple of restaurants
in the distict of vouliagmeni, right at the seaside, however all of them
do require advance reservation.

let me know what dates you are here, and i can easily

aa) check and tell you what is going on in the city (from a cultural
point of view),

bb) make any advance bookings for you, and

cc) will be glad to take you out on a ride around the city with the
slk, if you travel alone, or with our 4-seater citroen if you are with
company...
