| Ok, I may be behind the times here but I just found out something I think is pretty cool. My son gave me a GPS for Father's Day. If not for that, I probably never would have bought one. I have never used one before and really had no need to have one. Last night on the way home I accidentally hit the "trip" button. A speedometer, Odometer, Top speed, average speed, etc popped onto the screen. This thing is AWESOME! I never knew the satalites tracking you could tell your speed. It is right on too. Up inclines, down inclines, it give instant updated speed info to the tenth of a mile per hour. I had already planned on taking out of my car cause I was bored with the map info but now that I found this page of information...It's like I have a new toy!!! ![]() Next I want to reset all the info and go 0-100mph and see how long it takes me to get there. ![]() Any guesses??? LOL SLKman |

| What kind of GPS is it? I have a Garmin c510, but it doesn't have the analog dials and it doesn't give as much of the info you've listed. Just speed and ETA, and where you are...obviously. But I did get to personalize it with a picture of my car on start-up and a copper colored car for the moving map...that was pretty cool. |

| Garman c580. I can change cars but only blue and black, or monster truck. Not seen any way to customize with my car picture, course, I am finding new stuff to do with it everytime my fat little fingers hit the wrong button by mistake! LOL |

| On the Garmin GPS, I believe you tap the lower left to get the extra information. In the photo below where it says "arrival 5:45pm". I use to have a C330 which I gave my parents, so I'm surprised if your C310 doesn't have this screen as well. ![]() ![]() |

| Go to Garmin's website (garmin.com). Download the web updater program. You should be able to update the GPS along with additional car settings, etc... Just upgraded my nuvi 350 to the latest firmware and added a few additional languages.

| I don't think the satellite is doing any calculation. It is just that the GPS knows where it as and where its been, so it can figure out the stats. |

| I have a Tom tom as well as comand sat nav. The tom tom is used just to monitor the speed camera positions. The tom tom shows your speed on the main display and beeps when you go a certain percentage above the speed limit for the road. |

| Wow, I was so excited to get the GPS 2 years ago, I didn't stop to read the operator's manual. Thanks for the heads-up Tummy! I have the same as you have shown. Now it's like I have a new GPS...all over again! This is on the "Powering Up" screen GPS1.jpg I downloaded an "orange" sports car from Garmin's website when I first got the GPS. GPS2.jpg And I thought I'd show you guys what I did on my way to work (top down). ![]() GPS4.jpg I didn't reset any of the values from when I first got it, except the max speed, of course. | Dang! Wished I could do that around here. ![]() My 70 year old Mom just got a job at Enterprise Car Rental shuttling cars all over Houston to 40 different locations...car dealerships, airports, etc. I figured she needed it more than me so I gave it to her to use. I helped her program in all 40 different locations, addresses and phone numbers. so now she can get there with no problems. If I find myself in need of it...I'll swipe it back from her. ![]() SLKman

This location is composed with latitude, longitude, altitude, horizontal speed, vertical speed, depending of how many satellites are visible (if 3 only, altitude is not available). Using a simple calculation (new location minus previous location), it is easy to extract a lot of information : average speed, distance done, ....
