Default New CL500/600

I just saw a new CL500, how disappointing.

I briefly saw it in the rearview, then saw it from behind since I didn't get to keep my eye on it as it passed. At this point I thought it looked nice. Then, I pulled along side of it a car length back and saw those totaly pregnated, RX-8 fenders.

I thought it looked bad at first but you will get used to it and I did, I see the CL500/600 with the sports package is one of the most beautiful car out there that doesnt compromise the comfort of a sedan in a sporty handling car.

Whats bad about the CL that its expensive and that its hard to drive if you have very narrow roads or have to park parallel such as the likes of streets in Munich, Geneve or London.

Ynot,

It looks extremely good, I really think its one of the nicest and modest everyday comfortable cars a person can get without getting too much attention like a Bentley or Rolls Royce.

I agree, saw an AMG one on the lot and it looks amazing.

I agree, this picture looks great! But this picture is horizontally stretched (could be my laptop screen) and it doesn't really show the buldging fenders. So IMHO this isn't a good real-life representation of the actual car.

It will probably grow on me as I see more of them, but first impression, for me anyway, was not exciting. As I said, too reminescent of the RX-8. I just thought it disappointing that MB was apparently taking a styling cue from Mazda.

The bulging fenders is the part i love about the car!

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed before, and other cars like the maserati have been brought up to compare.

To me, the current CL is one of the best-looking cars on the road today, along with the R230 SL and the E46 and E92 BMW 3-series.

Ikarus i must agree, even although i think as far as styling is concerned the new CL is far more up to date and so is the 3 series coupe (e92 model).

On another tip, to me the CL is more on the levels of a 6 series coupe BMW by comparison in size and the CLK is more in line with e92 comparisons.

In terms of styling in my personal opinion, the latest range of models (even if they've increased in size) are definitely up to date and some definitely set the trend. (chrome and glitterbits aside)...

Give me a Silver CLK63AMG Black anyday though

I'm not as happy with MB's latest style developments, the CL being the one noteworthy exception. I find the latest SLK and even more so the latest SL to be a bit too much about short-term flashy effect than about a classy styling that will hold its own for decades to come. I'm suspect this is because they're trying to cater to a younger crowd, but they have to be careful not to jeopardize their brand image along the way.

Ikarus: i can definitely see your point there with certain aspects of the new models. Looking at other brands such as Audi and BMW (i drive the latter), i often think, what were the designers smoking with model x or model y.

Without sounding vein over one item, I really do like the new side mirrors amongst other things (with v shaped indicators) and feel they're a lot nicer than the pre- SLK and MUCH better than the current C-Class side monsters.

In terms of the SLK i do feel that the new interior feels better and is more up to date and more flowing ands is a good combination of new items combined with the pre-facelifted design. (Bearing in mind i havent owned a pre-facelift and as wimbledon_slk mentioned its all down to personal taste really...

Just my .02
