The very latest Top Gear news and views from the usual team. Jeremy, Richard and James apply their minds to the question of what the British police should drive. At the moment Bobbies are forced to drive around in diesel hatchbacks, gingerly shuffling the steering wheel and letting criminals get away rather than risk scuffing their wheel trims. So, armed with no more than 1000 pounds each, the Top Gear boys set out to buy a bargain priced police cruiser that can take part in a dramatic chase without fear of costing the tax payer a packet if it gets broken. Meanwhile, James introduces a new member of the Top Gear team and steps aside so they can immediately make their mark on the show with a remarkable feat of daring. And as if that wasn't enough, Jeremy tears up the Top Gear track in the new Ferrari 430 Scuderia, the car that aims to put some passion back into the Italian supercar maker's increasingly nerdy and computerised stable. Plus, there's a break from the norm as the Reasonably Priced Car welcomes a pair of stars in the contrasting shapes of the Friday Night Project's Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins. All this, and some sound advice about how to deal with rising petrol prices. Top Gear is longer, stronger, faster, better and probably a bit more on fire than ever before.

Season spoiler there will only be 6 episodes for us to enjoy, season 12 will probably be around November or December.

James May will merely be introducing the new character (note that I said “character” and not “presenter”). The “steps aside” phrase just means he’s getting out of the way or whatever, not stepping down.

Well i actually thought by reading the write up that this would be a rather boring episode but as usual the off beat "humour" and the way those 3 do things had me in stitches and it was a thoroughly enjoyable episode.

My favourites were the supercar race (featuring the SLR ) on 1 gallon of petrol.
M3 vs Toyota Prius on vehicle fuel effenciancy
... Well actually the whole episode :P

Police vehicles were a treat too with clarkson going roman on us.

I was quiet suprised the SLR was leading the pack in a straight line I am sure it will be first place because we all know that the SLR compromises track handling for comfort and ease of use like all other mercedes cars.

One thing everyone needs to see is the CLK 63 AMG Black featured on Episode 2 (DEFINITELY WORTH Downloading / Watching)

- Just seeing that feature makes me want one :P

Yes the CLK test was very in depth and precise, I really loved how they started the scene at night makes it look very menacing with the cities vibrant colours bouncing on the silver metallic hue.

Jeremy, Richard and James explore the idea that you can't be a proper petrolhead unless you have owned an Alfa Romeo by buying three slightly used Alfas, each for less than 1,000 pounds. Jeremy also conducts possibly the least appropriate power test ever as he takes the gargantuan Bentley Brooklands onto the track, and Gavin and Stacey actors James Corden and Mathew Horne are the stars in the Reasonably Priced Car.

The presenters try to buy reliable Alfa Romeos for under £1000...
It doesn't go well.

All three of the presenters go on the hunt for the holy grail of motoring - a reliable used Alfa Romeo - with predictably messy results.

Jeremy takes the new Bentley Brooklands beyond the limit. Way, way beyond, in fact.

And, Gavin and Stacey stars James Corden and Rob Brydon take to the track in our reasonably priced car.

Interesting story in the Daily Mail yesterday (and yeah, I know - it's the mom-in-laws paper!) about the contract negotiations for S12. Evidently Hamster and May are looking to increase their current salaries of 350k GBP to be more in line with Clarkson's 2M GBP. So far, no contracts signed except for Clarkson
