| Hindsight is 20/20... Once he began going backwards in the grass, he should have released the brakes and turned the wheel to the right. It may have avoided contact with the wall. Also, the speed at which he caught the Viper indicates he was going too fast into that corner. What a shame. Those are beautiful cars.

| Speaking of grip... I'm sure the R8 does just fine there. However, it really depends on the balance of the car. If you lift during a corner, your rear wheels lose grip. Accelerating does the opposite. Braking during a corner, gives you more grip on the front wheels. So, he probably lifted and then his rear spun around. If he were in a 911, the rear would have snapped around even harder. BTW, for those who track at VIR, what's the average speed in that section?

| ouch that's gotta hurt... I think a lot of us had that experience when you spun out and you start to lose it and wouldn't be able to think as fast to recover but continue on what you were doing then hit something... |

| It looks like there is a slight rise (then drop) coming through that curve and the suspension unloaded. He already had a little over steer and when it unloaded, around he went. Unless that was his first lap, he should have known that drop was there. Willow Springs has a couple of those. Feels weird until you make them fun... -Webslinger |

I wonder if he's googling 'R8 wreck' and reading all the forum reactions.

| Humm... yes lets stay in touch and see what we can do. June would be tough, but that's a lot closer than to go down to willow springs. Google says its a little over 2 hrs to it from the house- very do-able. |
