5,500 pounds isn't alot of money to carry around. I know guys who carry around $20,000 USD all the time, don't ask me why, they just do. He's gullible and should have told the seller to meet him at the bank to deal with such transaction.

In the UK it's a lot of money. People just don't carry cash like that. Not in the circles I move in anyway.
