Default BBC's U.S version of Top Gear

I copied the following information from another forum that you guys might find interesting regarding the American version of Top Gear.

NBC could be taking the American version of Top Gear in a more “celebrity direction,” and we’re pretty excited about who they may have in mind.

Originally BBC had started calling several automotive writers and on-camera automotive journalist to give the new show a more “journalist credibility.” NBC then decided to they’d rather have more celebrity presence on the show.

According to Inside Line, an existing relationship with automotive enthusiast Jay Leno and Porsche collector Jerry Seinfeld could have the two be the most likely candidates for the show. Honestly we think that would give the American Top Gear a more comical appeal, but let’s hope that Leno and Seinfeld can handle themselves behind the wheel.

Who is going to be Stig? Conan O’Brien?

Who else do you think would make a good host for the American Top Gear. Have your say in the comments section below.

I would definitely watch if Seinfeld and Leno are hosting. However, the show will have a very different dynamic from the original. Would be interesting to see how it would work.

I don't think it's going to be the same, The Brits say what they want to say, that can not happen in our litigious nation. Every car reviewed in the America is good or great, no one ever really say what they want to say w/o the fear of being sued. Motorweek for example, every car is good, is there a bad car? Plus British humor > American humor, it's not the going to be the same. I'll watch it b/c I'm a car enthusiast but it's not going to be like the original top gear or fifth gear.

I'd agree with Ynot. I struggle to watch any kind of review show in the US, every second of the airtime is presented by someone or other and with the specific adds per show obviously the car people would pay the highest price to have the space around a car show. Maybe if they could limit the sponsors to mens health products and smelly things it would be better?

I miss the old topgear in someways, It used to have a lot more integrity. With actual x-pro race drivers on the books to test cars you tend to believe there feedback a lot more. Not that I don't love the new show, it's awesome. Just to be taken with a pinch of salt. A lot of people in the UK put the show down as they don't review enough "normal man's(or women's) cars". But who cares about normal cars, If your going to buy a standard a-b car who give's a stuffing how good it goes round the track? your best of just searching the forums and see what kind of history that car has for breaking down and other issues.

Anyhow back on the US Topgear, I think it could still be an interesting show. Specially if they get some big stars that are a little less shy and don't bow too much to the big companies. I think Bill Maher would be quite good, Not sure if he's into car's but he kinda tells it like it is.

1st episode I want to see a Ford f150 on a race track against a merc smart car, Just to please show those 10 million F150 drivers that there not in a performance vehicle, i think that alone would save a few lives on the roads here.

Honestly easty and ynot, both of your comments are spot on as I find Top Gear to be still great but not on par to what it used to be a couple of years ago around 2002-2004, its more of an entertainment rather than testing cars and providing the pro's and cons.

I think season 10 was off to a great start and its edging back to its original solid roots with the spectacular test in the south of europe with the Porsche GT3RS, Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera and the Aston Martin V8 Vantage N24. That specific episode had the perfect balance of entertainment and enthusiasm which is offered to the car enthusiast (viewer) like the older Top Gear series.

I also think that the British humor will over come those of Jay leno and Sienfeld, I mean especially with the Stig comments and on the actors.

I dont mind watching the American and Australian versions of Topgear then again its better than the arabic tv shows such as Gear one we get here with a women commenting the "features" of the car with the manufacturers promotional video playing in the background or when they did test the 0-60 runs for a BMW 335ci with a stopwatch , they should of atleast used a driftbox or the G-tech.
