Default FIA vs. The Sunday Times

The World Motor Sports Council has authorized FIA to issue libel proceedings against the UK newspaper The Sunday Times, which ran an article claiming that FIA was engaged in a witch-hunt against the McLaren-Mercedes team.

Will FIA pursue this course and open their books?

The article was written by Martin Brundle who I'm sure F1 fans remember so he is clearly qualified to comment on the matter, if the FIA are dumb enough to pursue this then Mad Max really will be living up to his name.

The general consensus at Merc is that so long as we use round wheels then they are going to say we are cheating, this will either end in McLaren pulling out effectively killing the company or Merc getting involved proper and then i imagine the FIA will be ass kissing real fast because for a company such as Merc that spends over £1 million a day on R&D alone good lawyers arrive by the bucket load.

The behaviour of FIA and Max Mosley in particular is ruining F1 in the eyes of the fans. I urge everyone at SLKWorld to sign the petition

Disagreements between Mosley and Dennis are common since a long time in F1, so I didnt surprise when Mclaren team was penalised last season. I think its a particular problem between this two guys.

So I have to remember you the treat that F.Alonso has suffered in all this years, the incident in Hungria G.P. this year (...) as example.

http://www.speedtv.com/articles/auto/formulaone/42078/

“McLaren wish to make a public apology to the FIA, Ferrari, the Formula 1 community and to Formula 1 fans throughout the world and offer their assurance that changes are now being made which will ensure that nothing comparable to what has taken place will ever happen again,” the statement concluded. “McLaren have also agreed to pay the costs incurred by the FIA for their investigation."

I think this public statement will help Mclaren team to start 2008 season as clean as possible.

Interesting politics, here's FIA's response http://www.fia.com/mediacentre/Press...131207-01.html

.... It looks like the London Times will not get a chance to open FIA's books.
