Default LA Auto Show

so today, Oscar (320SLK), his son Nick (320SLK jr?) and i went to the la auto show. we saw all of the expected attractions and a few unexpected (a V8 barstool!) we saw the new lambo reveton, the gt2, f430, slr roadster, r8, etc. i'll post pictures after the site is on the new server.

i did make a purchase while i was there. i had heard about and done a little research on these things. they had a display at the show, so what the heck, i bought a set of pulstar pulse plugs. they are supposed to cause a more efficient burn than traditional spark plugs and improve hp, torque and fuel economy. increases in each area are supposed to be from 2 to 10% or more ... we'll see. i'll follow-up after i install them and report on any noticeable changes.

anyway, here's a link to their website for anybody that is interested. http://pulstarplug.com/

How hard/easy is it to change your own spark plugs? Perhaps some pix and tutorial?

Scott, i really would stay away from those plugs, they add unneccesary load to the ignition system...mostly a gimmick. They sometimes help on older cars, but are usually detrimental to our cars, and can cause permanent damage, no to mention voiding of warranty.

some short discussion here:
http://www.slkworld.com/general-disc...lse-plugs.html

BTW, it would be interesting if they do work...

google pulstar, and you'll see, no one has ever shown it to 'help' on thier car...

Though many people believe that it increases the risk of engine damage....

Thanks Edward... the company's literature claims that the plugs will not affect the manufacturer's warranty. They point to case law to support the claim. They also claim that since the pulse is so short in duration, it cannot damage the vehicle. With the research I did, I failed to find any absolute proof benefits or claims of damage, so I thought, worst case scenario, I probably just waste a couple of hundred bucks. BUT, silly me, I didn't research the plugs on this site. Based on Dan's input (on the thread you linked to), I'll be taking advantage of the company's 30 day, "no questions asked" money back guarantee.

There's only 8 spark plugs on the M113.989 engine, right? I'm thinking about the Denso Iridium spark plugs, part No. IK16, for the 55 (about $12 each).

The SLK55 has 16 plugs Eddy. There's a pretty good tutorial from MBWorld at the following link:

http://mbworld.org/forums/showthread...spark+plugs%22

It's an W210 E55, but same engine as ours.

They probably quote the Moss Magnuson Law to prove it won't affect warantee, but spark plugs are an integral part of the combustion process, and are technically a 'new technology' so you are modifying a major part of the engine. Of course it wouldn't affect warranty on say the roof, but the engine is probably the most expensive part of our car...

i emailed the plug's manufacturer, they provided return instructions and it looks like there shouldn't be any hassle getting my $$ back.

in the mean time, here's some LA auto show pics as promised...
