Default Women almost hard-wired to notice men in sports cars

From an article in the New York Times

Quote:
Out on the road in the Prius, I did start to appreciate the drive. It was so clean, so elegant and yes, even nimble.

Still, one thing nagged at me. As I headed down Fifth Avenue in the Prius on a warm, late September evening — presumably one of the last of the year where you might see short skirts and low-cut tops — I was noticing an absence of glances from women. This was rarely a problem in the Mustang.

After all, said David M. Buss, a professor of evolutionary psychology at the University of Texas in Austin, women are almost hard-wired to notice a car like the Mustang. “Men with the muscle cars and sports cars tend to be signaling that they have extravagant resources, and sufficient excess to lavish those resources on nonnecessities,” he said in an e-mail message. “These are precisely the qualities that women look for in a short-term mate — extravagant display of resources that can be devoted to them."

"extravagant display of resources that can be devoted to them" interesting alternative way to signal "looking for a shag"
what psychologists do is to tell us what we already know, but... with elegance

This reminds me of all the guys I knew that reside in So. Cali, they were buying sports car they could barely afford, when I asked "why", they said, "only way to get notice." Sad but true.

one thing is getting noticed when driving and one thing is getting noticed in general. The first requires a nice car, the second requires charm, elegance and intelligence.
it is my view that all Mercedes drivers have have all these qualities.
In other words, we are nice regardless of our cars!! aren't we??? LOL hehe?

Not only German, here in the US as well, although the SLK and CLK is changing that image.

So what about women that drive sportscars? Are men hardwired to notice us? OK, that was a dumb question, men would notice a woman even if she was pushing a Yugo.

I cannot speak for others, but, yes as a sign of being successful and financially independant I will notice a man's car. After that though, it's up to the man to BE a man.

If he's just driving the car to attract women...then chances are he'll not be able to step up to the "Man" plate when the time comes. Just MHO.

I think all comments are correct. However, if you want to get more attention than you can stand, put on a Highway Patrol uniform and go into a shopping mall. Dang!!! Must have been the big gun in my holster cause the next day while in civilian clothes, nobody even gave me the time of day. Rude Awakening (even ugly can get l--d if in uniform but plain ugly is out of luck).

PS: Im tryin for the 200 posts by fridy noon.

For me, Girls who drive sports car are already 3-4 times hotter because of it. I dunno what it is, or even just a girl who knows about cars, and didnt get hit in the face with a bat, I tend to notice wayyyyyyyyy more. Just mho.

True (older person) in my case. However, the same will be true whatever color I get next time.

Funny how that article rings true (for others, not me). I am always being approached by men and women. The usual statement is "Your husband bought you a nice car." My hubby buys me nothing. I buy for myself. In fact, I bought his Miata! He works hard, so he deserves it. Ours is 50-50, so I just smile at those mouth breathing yahoos and say thanks.
