Well I changed track and am now seriously looking at Honda S2000’s. I’ll be doing the medium go-around tomorrow with the two competing dealers that are across the street from one another.
Option 1 … Honda dealer
2006 S2000 with 37,620 for $26K, 1 owner, comes with a 7 year 1000,000 extended powertrain warranty along with the remaining basic warranty. The car was registered in Murrieta (by Lake Ellsinore) so the miles are probably freeway flying and no big deal.
1/20/2006....Service Plan Co. Murrieta, CA....Service Contract Issued
1/20/2006....California Motor Vehicle Dept. Murrieta, CA....Title issued or updated First owner reported Registered as private lease vehicle Loan or lien reported
12/19/2006....California Motor Vehicle Dept. Murrieta, CA....Title issued or updated Loan or lien reported Registered as lease vehicle
1/26/2007....37,620....Honda Certified Dealer....Offered for sale as a Honda Certified Used Car
2005 S2000 with 15,359 for $26K, 1 owner, The dealer will match or better a 7 year 1000,000 extended powertrain warranty (third party). I’m sure I can get them lower than the Edmonds retail value.
8/29/2005....California Motor Vehicle Dept. Monterey Park, CA....Title issued or updated First owner reported Registered as private lease vehicle Loan or lien reported
8/29/2005....Service Plan Co. Monterey Park, CA....Service Contract Issued
12/7/2006....California Motor Vehicle Dept. Monterey Park, CA....Title issued or updated Loan or lien reported Registered as lease vehicle
The withdrawal symptoms you will suffer from weaning yourself from the SLK will KILL YOU!!! If you get a different car, don't let your true love be forgotten. Miles on a car are like days in your life....each one just gets better.

is that a 1000,000 = MILLION mile? i thought you typed it wrong the first time, but then you typed the same thing again for the second car?
To be honest, i don't know how much is a certification worth, may be more worthwhile to just have someone familiar go over the car with you. i'd go with the lower mileage one.
S2000 is a great car, i would have gotten one if it had a bigger engine. (yeah yeah i know, it has lot's of hp for it's weight, but the torque is way way down there).

Bad case of copy and past. Give me a break on the 100,000 mile warranty. I'm not looking for a race car but one that's fun to drive.
The only concern with the S2000 are the transmission problems.

Tom, have you looked at, or are you interested in a boxster? from what i know of you (you amg guys you) i think you'd be happier in the porshe than a miata or s2000.

Cars Are made to be driven. Unless you have a cap. Then the car is made to be driven slightly haha. My family has had some nice exotics over the years, and some of our biggest regrets is when we had some of the ones we really loved, we never drove them.
Delicious Food is meant to be eaten, Tires are meant to be worn, and right foots are meant to weigh 35 pounds. I say drive and love it!
I have 78K+ on mine. And I'll be driving roughly 325 miles per week. As much as I love the car, it's just that really. I try to hold things with an open hand. Sorry...
I think I'd lean toward the boxter as well, but you may feel the same mileage tinge with that too. Tough call Tom.

Scott has a very good point.

The S2000 fit me like a glove. They are so comfortable to drive. But it wasn't to be.
My first priority was a coupe all along and I purchased one today. I couldn't pass up the deal, a stealth AMG .
Over on the AMG private lounge we've been talking about "Did AMG build..." and it's confirmed the parts are AMG. Still waiting on a affirmative answer if it's assembled at Affalterbach. Options would be Bad Cannstatt or Affalterbach.
The deal is $29,000 after taxes and license. Base MSRP is $48,000. The car has 6700 miles on it. There are about 8 left on dealer lots being sold as NEW in So Cal.
The one I bought has no previous owner. The original dealer was in Golden Colorado. We assume it was driven by one of the manufacturer's executives as a summer car since there is no indication of wet driving.
Durring the test drive, The acceleration was impressive merging onto the 57 freeway. It makes me wonder if I'm having a problem with my SLK32.
Any way, the car I bought is a 2005 Crossfire SRT-6 coupe.

very cool! love those cars! i was wondering why you didn't get one in the first place? the srt6 should be a little bit faster, isn't it lighter? being a coupe?

Come on Eddy, The SLK comes first. I'm not sure if it's quicker or faster with 30HP and 40TQ short. But it's close, that's why I decided to buy it (for So Cal winters ...chuckle...)

I've got to retract my previous comment to Eddy. Yes, when I started looking at a second car, the Xfire coupe was at the top of the list for performance / value reasons.
Here's a spreadsheet I did a while ago. Note the lower the number / the more power regarding HP/Wt HP/Wt/Tq
Good selection Tom! Still staying in the Mercedes family...so to speak. My wife loves the Crossfire. Too bad they couldn't have managed a retractable hardtop for it.
