Default Houston and San Antonio

Need tips guys. I'm going for a little drive this weekend because it's my birthday, weather permitting.

I need to know some reccommended eateries for Houston on Friday evening and san antonio Saturday evening oh and a nice hotel for Saturday in San antonio also. Any advice.

TIA.

I used to travel down to Dallas and Houston on business when I worked for Occidental. I think they both have a restaurant called Ninfa's. It used to be very good. It was Mexican, but not really. They used to have an "off the menu" menu. The chef made up his own stuff and it was very good. Of course that was a long time ago. Maybe they don't exist any more

I little search on the web shows that Mama died a while back and the chain was acquired by some other company, so I don't know if they are still there or not.

But I would still look them up...

Houston is similar to Dallas in that it depends on which side of town you'll be in, even more so. The seafood here is generaly better than in Dallas. Steak houses are on par. Several good South American and Cuban places. If you're looking for a good British pub, then stop by the Richmond Arms (on Richmond). I can make recommendations with a little more info on your preferences. I assume you'll be taking I-10 from Houston to San Antonio. Watch your speed, or watch out for cops. They patrol fairly heavily.

Plans have changed. I'm just going to Houston for the saturday and sunday now. So I nice place to stay. Is there anywhere to stay where you can walk to places unlike dallas. My preference is that I'm pretty easy and will eat almost anything. But will be wine/dine-ing so some where a little plush maybe and I have to treat myself for my Birthday.

That's a tough one. Walking around Houston just isn't done. The down town area shuts down on the weekends. The Galleria area may be your best bet. This is Loop 610 at Westheimer. The hotels are pricy though. The Westin is in the Galleria, the Marriott is across the street & the Double Tree is around the corner. Lots of restaurants/bars around there within walking distance. America's is very good for Latin cuisine. You're a week early for the Auto show. I've got to run, but will give it some thought & get back with you.

My wife corrected me on the status of downtown Houston after work. It's been "revitalized". Here's a link to what looks like a good place to walk/party on fri/sat nights. I don't know the hotels downtown other than the Hyatt, which is nice & centrally located. By the way, Happy Birthday.

The Houston Galleria has an ice skating rink if you want to do that while there. The Galleria used to be a particularly nice Galleria.

Thanks loads guys, I had a fun time. Didnt do as much as planned because of the Rain. But I got to Houston and stayed in the Icon hotel. Wasn't very impressed, but the location was very good. Then sunday the weather improved slightly so we went for a drive down the coast. Nice quite weekend, then I challenged the Houston to dallas speed record to get home. thanks for the info and Birthday wishes. Brian!
