| Never, I mean Never close your garage (ouch) door manually unless you use the handle (ouch) on the door!!! I was getting Christmas presents out of (ouch) the garage and manually opened the door to avoid (ouch) waking the kids. When I went to lower the door...it started going down faster (ouch) than I had expected. I just knew it was going (ouch) to be a loud bang when it hit the ground so I put my hand on the door to slow it down and OUCH! My finger got caught in the crack of the door as it continued to go to (ouch) the ground and close! I do remember getting ice out of the (ouch) freezer and keeping it on ice. As long as it stayed frozen I had no pain or blood but once it thawed...whew! So I kept it frozen all night long. My wife says I should have gone to the doctor but all he would (ouch) have done is look at it and give me a prescription for Vicaden, which I already had from another accident. So I just wrapped it in (ouch) ointment and am watching it. My wife is a nurse so she keeps checking it for signs of infection. So far so good. Now I have a black finger nail and (ouch) when I type...well, you know....OUCH! I have almost mastered typing without it but sometimes I forget and (ouch) use it. Some advise to you all.... always use your (ouch) garage door opener or the garage door handles when operating the garage door! If it starts to come down on it's own... LET IT GO! (ouch)SLKman

| You may have what is called a subungual hematoma (collection of blood underneath the fingernail). It is quite a painful condition. If you have a doctor friend, then the hematoma can be evacuated easily in a few seconds with a disposable battery operated cautery with a small blunt tip (1mm or less) and the procedure is relatively painless (honest!). Pain improves dramatically after the procedure. I hope you didn't wake up everyone in the house.

| Brent, several years ago i smash the tip of my finger between my water ski and the tow rope. my fingernail turned dark purple and had that dull, pressure filled throbbing pain. the old country cure that i learned then was to heat a pin with a lighter until it's glowing red. then SLOWLY pierce it through the fingernail. the heat basically melts the nail and it is painless. as soon as the nail is punctured, the pressure is released (looked like a mini geyser of blood when i did it). |

| I think you all may be right. I like the idea of draining it. I may give that a try. Funny thing is, door dropping, me hoot'in and holler'in and NO one woke up! I should of just used the door opener! LOL Everyone tells me my nail will fall off. yipeee...I really look forward to that..NOT! Thanks for all of the advise given. SLKman

| The fingernail may slowly loosen if you injured the growing part of the nail. This is the part of the fingernail closest to the hand. If the hematoma is drained, it may not; only time will tell, in the next 2-3 weeks.
