How to care for my Navigation screen?

Hey I recently bought a used slk 350 and the navi screen has these blemishes on it. They look more like grease marks, but i can't clean it with water and a micro fiber towel. When I feel it, it does not feel like scratches. Is there anything that I can use to shine and polish the screen?

It would be more helpful if you'd post some pictures. I hope yours is not the very common problem of someone spraying their LCD screen with a cleaner such as Windex and letting it run to the bottom of the screen. The solvent then creeps up behind the screen, leaving a very distinctive (rainbow-color soap bubble) blemish that can't be removed. The screen should only be cleaned with approved ammonia-free products and one should NEVER spray directly onto the screen itself to avoid the aforementioned problem.

I'm on vacation right now so i can't take any pictures :/, but it only shows up when there's a glare on the screen. otherwise when the screen is on and there's no glare i can't see it. Thanks for the tip though! i didn't spray anything directly on because i was afraid something bad would happen... guess that just confirmed my fear.

Any computer store should sell an LCD screen kit. It's usually a set of moist and dry towelettes that are designed to take care of fingerprints and such. Fine microfiber cloth helps keep the dust off and is usually available at any car supply store. Hope this helps.

My screen was pretty bad from trying to clean it with a microfiber and 'spit'. (must be something wrong with my spit). anyway, same symptoms, in glare and light it looks blah. My friend says, try this stuff. I said, "hold on there, i don't/can't spray windex and other stuff on this fine piece of glass/plastic. so i tried it in a small, tinny, tiny spot and wow! clear as glass.

TV and Computer
Spray and buff dry. You can spray directly on screen or rag

Use the same application for diving masks, cameras and appliances

Eye Glasses
Spray lenses, buff dry with all cotton cloth or Bounty paper towels only.

Apply every two or three days. In between coats just lightly buff to clean.

Our Cleaner is Safe on anti-glare lenses

is it worth $20 for a small bottle? don't know, i got it for free.

Well, there is a company here in the UK that fixes MFD's and COMAND LCD's - I've never had any dealing with them, but I've a couple of C class friends who have had their MFD LCD's replaced who swear by them.

I suspect that it would be possible to replace the LCD, but finding the manufacture and a part number is gonna be painful..

I'm not sure I've seen a Comand screen that isn't scratched, at least somewhat. It's very sensitive, though yours does seem worst than most.

Some people have, by accident, gone the other way and removed the anti glare coating which is what seems to scratch so much. I wonder if that's an option in your case?

Somewhere on here was a post from a guy that did it, and seemed happy with the result (though obviously the potential for more glare).

Good Luck!

:tu:This has been "covered" before. I'm not impressed with the factory finish on the Comand Nav screen. I purchased a LCD screen protector off eBay for about ten bucks. Provides a nice protective finish that's much easier to maintain than the factory version. Installed almost two years ago, excellent results. Check eBay, numerous sellers. Would recommend providing exact dimensions for a custom fit. Easy solution. I think you'll be happy with the results.

Here is a before and after shot of my navi with the screen protector (thanks eddy). The lighting is a little off from the original picture, but the difference can still be seen! I'll wait for the sun to come out to get a better shot with some glare.
Which one is before and which one is after? I presume the left one is the "after" photo. It looks good :tu:

Looks like the cupholder is in its open or extended position on the photo with the NavProtector.
