I can't believe that someone of Max's intelligence would be so stupid to take F1 to the brink of collapse just to try to make a point. Talk about egotistical!!
When he became FIA president, replacing Jean-Marie Ballestre, everyone thought it was great to have someone in the role who would be be more reasonable. Well I guess after a number of years in the top job, Max started to believe that he was GA and could do whatever he wanted. Far from reducing costs, I think the dictatorial introduction of a range of rule changes and restrictions, has actually increased the cost in some areas.
Good riddance to him, although he may yet change his mind like he did in 2004.

I think F1 is in danger of collapsing. The manufacturers have started pulling out, the rules are in disarray, it is way too expensive. It is almost like what happened to Can-Am.
I think Max exacerbated things, however, I think Bernie's Fifedom was doomed to fail sometime as when someone holds such tight control over something, it eventually falls apart. People get tired of trying to make it better when they will not be recognized, rewarded, and the leader must always be appeased.
The fact they felt they had to unionize and he is taking the "Crush the Union" path, means things will eventually break apart.
I'm hopeful that now the 'split' between FIA and FOTA has been sorted, that they can sort the rules out and get on with the show.
Honda pulled out when they should have stayed in. Toyota may pull out. Who knows? Going back a few years, there was only one full blown factory team - Ferrari. All the others. McLaren, Williams, Lotus, Brabham, Beneton, etc. were all kit cars, often with the same Cosworth engines.
I hope that Toyota, BMW, Ferrari, Renault, Mercedes et al stay in the sport, but I think F1 will survive if some of them drop out. If they had all buggered off to form a different series then F1 as we know it would have been Donald Ducked..

I have a feeling Bernie is on his last legs and knows it with his lackey, Max going. FIA's board of directors are probably figuring out a way to buy him out and send him off to pasture.
Put Bernie in a Nazi uniform and lock the 2 of them in a room and they both would croke!

Well, Ferrari is on the FOTA side, which is surprising, and it means Bernie has lost his hold. If Ferrari leaves Formula One, it is dead for sure. They have been the one true supporter through out history.
