Hi I don't know about the states but S.A. Where I live we have an AMG Conversion Centre. For example youv'e bought a SLK350 and took it for a conversion after which it develops 227kw (305bhp) and 405Nm torque. By the way that will kick C55 !! The conversion includes AMG Ratios for the 7GTronic, and Benz Technic and AMG combined bodywork to give a unique SLK350 AMG (Delete the 0 as option) look. This also includes badging boot and engine! Does not affect mobiloplan and increases trade inn. Would you consider this fake?

If the it's a genuine AMG Center, it wouldn't be a fake, but i doubt they remove the 0 for you. Any more info about this place?

I saw another fake yesterday, a W140 CL500. it had AMG on the right hand side of the trunk, and "kompressor" on top of the v8 symbol on the fenders. are you guys ever worried about taking a picture because it might encourage these dumbshats if they see you?

| I agree. If the car's VIN doesn't identify it as an AMG, then it's not a true AMG.

Well DC/AMG do offer conversions now, as I remember that's what AMG is all about converting Merc's not building them, although they share the same parts these days apart from a couple of shocks and the engine. As far as the VIN's concerned if this kind of thing keeps you awake at night, mine states all the AMG mods on the DC system hence the higher trade in. Sorry guys you spent too much! Also I hear you guys talking of options our spec has everything as standard also no 280 in line up. I'll let the value and performance do the talking, here a slk55 sells for 100 000.00 US$ not worth it.

| Here the 55AMG goes for for 215 000 USD, 350 148 000 USD, 280 121 500 USD and the 200K 91 000 USD...Without extras. ![]() ![]() ![]() None of them worth it...... Of the R171's on the road are 99% 200K's. Of the R170 are most of them 200's, some 200K and 230K, and an odd 320...

To me, AMG signifies the one person hand build engine, if your engine doesn't have a signature, it's not an AMG, no matter how to try to convert it, unless it's an engine swap. To me it doesn't really matter, enjoy what you have, be it a 200, 280, or a 350. AMG's are cheap here in America, you can get a slightly used one with less than 7000 miles with all the options for $52,000 USD. Half the price of a SLK200 in most countries. I had the option to get a black exterior and red interior SLK55 for $2K more than my SLK350. There were threes things I didn't like, no manual, no airscarf, and I'm too lazy to own a black car. SLK without airscrarf in Colorado is extremely difficult to sell, they were begging me to buy the SLK55, it eventually sold to a person from out of state at below MSRP which was unheard of back in 2005.

i was in spain and saw a green (yes woolly green) 200, with the AMG sport kit and AMG exhausts. however it was badged 55 AMG and had V8 badges on the wings, also was sporting a set of AMG multisport alloys. looked lovely i have to admit, but what a prat trying to pull that off... it had the 200 brakes which gave it away.

So many labels ans so much confusion. I have an 01 SLK 230 Kompressor with a sport kit. No AMG labels but there is a sport emblem on each fron quarter panel. It is obvious to me the body changes that come with the kit but are there any suspension and brake upgrades as well? I recently had to change the front rotors and pads for inspection (I used power slot cryo treated rotors and akebono euro ceramics) and the calipers seemed very typical OEM with single pistons etc. And since it is my first SLK or even mercedes for that matter I am not sure what usually comes with one for brakes and suspension. Although I am satisfied with my new rotors and pads I was really Jonesing for the Brembo GT 355 big brake kits they are definitely out of my price league.

US cars don't come with AMG badges on them unless they are ordered that way. The dealers put them on because they can sell more cars, but it's really false advertising, both the dealer and the buyer.

I've just seen one today! Black SLK35 AMG travelling southbound on the M1 (Jct31ish). I was a young lady driving it, a message to her partner if she's faking this what else could she be faking??

A friend just concieded to me, when he saw my SLK light-up door sills, that he had AMG light-up door sills and AMG badging put on his CLK420. He admits he didn't even have the body kit, but only AMG rims from the factory. We have revenge on him though, as his Audi A4 Quattro Sport has spent so many days in the shop and failing, that he longs for the CLK and is now aware how stupid he looked.

I saw the best one yesterday. A college kid had an ML lowered, removed the numbers next to ML and replaced them with ///AMG. I was laughing at him in traffic, course he didn't think there was anything funny. I, unfortunately didn't have time to get home and catch up with him in the 55 to show him why I was laughing at him. On second thought, I probably did have time...
