| September 8th Willow Springs Track Day Join your fellow AMG drivers for a safe and fun track day at Willow Springs on September 8th. Professional instructors will be on hand to help track new comers or provide pointers to the regulars. The day will start out with a mandatory drivers meeting to review the track rules. A class room session will follow for the novice drivers while the advance run group heads out to the 2.5 mile road course with 9 turns, long straights and the opportunity to drive their AMG at speeds close to 150mph! In between run groups drivers will have instructor led sessions on the Skid Pad. | I'm going to try and work it in. How would it work for couples? just swap seats between runs and seperate coaching? ...the car should be broken in by then! |

The $250 includes using the skid pad with instruction. You may want to send a email to kailo@opentrackracing.com regarding two drivers, one car. Shelle, correct me if I'm wrong, the price is $195 without the skid pad time?

It could still go either way so if there's a bump in price, not much I can do. I'm already covering 2 nights in the hotel (booked) coming down from NorCal. I asked what the cut off is so we'll see...

| I've torqued my nuts and I'm ready to roll! Any other feedback / suggestions about the track/area from the group before I make the drive down from northern Calif. to Willow Springs? I've already loaded up with an ice chest and mucho aqua... Drive wise, I'm going to bomb down 5 and cut over at the grapevine unless others have a better idea...? -Doug |

| That's cool! Get to match face(s) with handles. The wife couldn't get the day/half day off so it's going to be haul- esp since I have to pass over from 101->I5 right next to the "Lick" forrest fire- at the end of the day- on a Friday. I'm going to just crank the tunes and cope while knowing I'm headed for fun. |

| Update your profile. Based on your location, there very well could be some GTG's.

| Thanks to Shelle for a great time. Had a good show of some vary powerful cars. The weather was cooler than expected (below 90 most of the day). The instructors were excellent (patience and knowledge) which made it better. I didn't have time to take many photo's but here's a few. These were taken when others were on track. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

| Ya, it was pretty toasty, but it was a blast- Well worth the long drive down from nor-cal. I hit close to 130 on the front straight- once I had the nerve to dial up the go-fast mode. "duck, duck, goose" was fun too. Too bad Tslick had tire problems late in the day. Shelle, you get the tip of the hat for getting this set up, getting our own little group action with instructors, and last but not least- keeping me posted on the status of the highway coming down!! :-) Great job!!! Didn't get to spend a lot of time with the other AMG'rs once the fun got started as we were either all driving, or all working our way through the color coded runs. I didn't get the chance to pass any of the GT500's that were there (I was supposed to have one before I switched to the 55) but at least I kept up! As soon as pics come in from the track photog, I'll post 1 or 2. Thanks for sliding a pic of my car in Tom! I didn't get to park close to the other AMG's but I tried... The wife took a couple pics, but she kept getting distracted by all the folks fawning over our Pug dog! whoda thunk it. Our last run of the day I put the Pug in her custom 4 point harness and took her and the wife for a moderate couple of laps. Anyway, I probably spent an hour cleaning the nose and hood of the car once we got home with the hot towl to get bugs and rubber rubs off the car and then a moderate detail job. I don't even know why I thought to bring the blue painters' tape, but it came in handy as soon as I saw what others were doing with it. I think to help secure the camera in the car but never did. I'm bringing several rolls next time! Good fun! |

| Doug, those GT500's were fast. I was impressed with their cornering let alone raw speed. You've got to post a pic of pug in his harness. I can see pug dawg sleepin through turn 5. ![]() As to the tires, I guess I was to aggressive on the skid pad. The front left is delaminating at the center grooves with cracking adjacent to the grooves. I'm surprised the pilot sports would do that. As to the professional photo's, I saw a photo of me coming out of turn 5 with the SL65 behind me, man does my car look small... like a raging MGB... ![]() Edit: SL65 vs SL63 Last edited by Tslick; 09-10-2007 at 10:30 PM. |
