Anyone interested in touring the mountains of North Carolina and Virginia this spring? Lets see if we can set date, time, place and details. The only time the mountains are better is the fall, heck why not do both. Party, road trip anyone?????

Count me in, assuming my SLK arrives on time. Blue Ridge Parkway is a good idea. Would love to ride the Tail of the Dragon one of these days, but it's a long drive from here.

That is four so far, any ideas when and a start point etc? I can be very flexible so lets accomodate the furthest away and make it central. Maybe start Shenandoah valley, head west or something, I am open to any suggestions and even if something comes up, the group can have a weekend or even a day in the hills on the winding back roads. Stress relief etc.

Well, I think all roads lead to the 40, which could take us into Asheville. I know that Blue Ridge Parkway is accessible there, but it's nowhere near Virginia... Also, I'm picking up my SLK55 next week in Germany, so my car won't be here until late April/early May. I have another car to take, so it's not like I can't go... What is a good time for everyone? I'm not too familiar with those mountain roads, so maybe someone whose been through them thar hills can come up with some suggestions.

Maryland and even Virginia may be a bit far for a day trip to AVL. Roanoke Va or somewhere near there, split the difference. Waiting for the new ride late April early May OK with me, everyone needs time to plan so lets be flexible and see what works best for all.

Hey Pinball, I am in Salisbury, several of the guys interested are from MD and VA, recon we should socialize wid yankees? Member that war of Northern Aggression our grand fathers told us about. I was thinking a run up I77 to I81 to Roanoke or that area and then mountain roads for the early afternoon with lunch, lies and other stuff. We will keep things sane, wife will probably want to go (unless we all agree this is a boys only thing, then I could tell her its work related) , Naw, she won't buy that. If anyone is familiar with that area or another suggestion, speakup. As I said before, I am flexible. Waiting for the new SLK to be delivered is also not a problem, May is still not too hot, heck even June, specially if ur havin fun drivin in the hills.

Did not mean to imply a new SLK, this 99 being delivered Monday is my only SLK. Bought it from Arizona, got it as something to play with on purdy days. As far as other toys, since 1964 when I bought my first vehicle I have never sold one and through the years, if I see and want it, I buy it. Some of the aquisitions have never been driven and some are well used. To list all 97 would take a while, would be easier to post the insurance papers on the building which list all contents down to the 25 Muncie and Borg Warner t-10 4 speed trannys sitting in bins. The 4 Holman Moody 427 race motors never started and the other stuff. I will post a picture from time to time, hate to be seen as a brag but I am the King of Pack Rats.

I just took it for a "quick" test drive. No, wait, that was the wrong word to use. I took it for a "short" drive around the block. That red is amazing! I got so many looks from poor BMW drivers at the lights. You have no idea how hard it was to not take them down off the line. Just kidding. Since it wasn't my car, I took it easy - I didn't want to have buy two SLK's! I did get a "thumbs up" from someone in a Stingray Corvette. You've got a sweet ride, and the more I think about it, that red color is the way to go. I'm actually having second thoughts about going for the Storm Red, but it's too late to change my mind. Oddly enough, because I took the European Delivery, they did give me a virtual delivery on yours! | |

OK, I'm going to go for this post. I "gots" to know. Ninety seven vehicles, (one big azz boat) 25 transmissions, four "never started" Holman Moody (circa late 60s) race motor$. WOW, you get to go first when we have "show and tell"! We (I) want some pics of that stuff. Good luck with the SLK on Monday.

Building them posts (SEE Promotion Post) Lots of toys but little time to play. Turn 57 in July and year 18 with this job so 2 more years and I am going to quit flying and start living. My high school buddy (he maintains all my stuff) has enjoyed the cars more than me over the past 15 years. He calls weekly to rub it in ie: took the Jag out or a 20 mile stretch today gonna drive the Shelby GT 500 tommorrow. Ended up completely redoing the brakes on the 55 T-Bird after they went spongy last week. My wife Bretta will be happy when I'm gone, she often asks, what is all that junk worth? If she only knew, I'd be found dead in bed. I will dig up some pic and try to learn how to use this scanner thing to put them on site. Or may be an excuse to run the SLK down to Wilmington to take pictures with the digital camera. Pager went off got to go fly, more later.
