| After being abused driving [speeding] from Mt Baldy, I started looking into performance driving schools in So Cal. Speed Ventures seems to be the best, but others are out there, Redline Track Events, Speed Trial USA, and Touring Car Racing Association What's your thought. Here's the schedule for Speed Ventures. The Horse Thief Mile at Willow Springs seems like a good start for discussion. Slow and technical. Learn how to keep the squeal out of the tires which equates to fast. If it rain's the better for control and technique. It's cost less than a few weeks worth of golf. Last edited by Tslick; 12-21-2006 at 12:50 AM. |

Smoothness is key on the track, but if you're going fast, you're tires should be pretty audible through the corners, especially street tires. I'd stick to streets of willow and buttonwillow. The varying organizations have instructors ride along to help you out, but if you indeed wish to become a better driver, investing in a proper driving school like skip barber would be quite worthwhile. | |

| Enjoy yourself. Word of caution: I personally wouldn't mind driving in the rain. Like you said, it teaches you better technique. Of course, I will never do it. Why? The organizations I've driven with REQUIRE the windows down for safety reasons. That is the ONLY reason I have not signed up for any track events the last few months. I would inquire if those organizations require the same.

| I've tracked in the rain a couple of times. I put some clingfilm, sandwich wrap on the controls on the door. But to be honest the only time water came into the car was when I was stationary. racing round the track in heavy rain not much comes inside. my biggest worry is the young fool in the 4k raced up mazda crashing into the back of you.
