SLK 400 Spotted

On the I-10 somewhere between Palm Desert and Phoenix, We drove past a silver SLK with 400 badging. I was doing over 90 and did not have a camera to grab a picture. At first, I thought this was another crazy badging job. But I just did a quick Google and a number of pages came up regarding a SLK 400 model. Mostly foreign (non-US) pages. I will need to do some more research.

Anyone ever heard of a 400?? Is it a known tuner version?

Bill, this was also an R170. Maybe your 550 was just the addition of a "0" to 55 badging applied to an R170 :-)

never heard of a SLK 400, except for a R171 concept car (never released, and probably won't ever be...it was a diesel).

A diesel version would be nice. Maybe MB's answer to Audi's TT TDI.

There ARE CLK 550 and S550s.

Yeah, i have the CLK 500 which is the old V8. The current CLK 500s are badged as 550s in the US to differentiate from the old v8s even though it's still 5.0 liters.

The MBUSA site says:CLK 550 Cab. 5.5L 32-valve V-8, 382 hp.
