For 6 days (4th thru the 9th) last week I was in central Florida along A1A between Sebastian Inlet and Cape Canaveral. I was disappointed in the low volume of Mercedes Benz autos but I did catch a few SLK’s. I saw one silver SL.

R170’s out numbered R171’s 4 to 3. The prominent was a silver R170 at a condominium around South Patrick on the beach side (maybe Satellite Beach) and a silver R171 in South Cocoa Beach.

The others R170’s and one R171 were again silver cruising along A1A on the 5th (Sunday). The other R171 appeared to be a silver 55 heading towards Merritt Island on the toll road 528 on Thursday the 9th.

Funny, there all silver.

Anybody in the area last week?

I did spot a herd of ~ 30 Pontiac Solstice with their tops down along A1A in 95 degree F and 95% RH environment (felt like Yuma AZ in August) on the 4th. Now I know why the photo’s from Florida have the tops up.

The week in Florida was cool even thou I started work a 5 AM EST (2 AM PST) at the Cape, I did see two rocket ship launches. Saturday morning ~ 5:30 AM the Phoenix mars lander bottle rocketed out of SLC17 on a Delta II. That was cool because I had a side view from Indialantic and the trajectory was horizontal. Clear visibility through second stage ignition. Then on Wednesday STS118 (space shuttle) going to the International Space Station barreled out of KSC (about 3 miles from my work area). Unfortunately they evacuated my work area that’s around a mile from the Titan IV and Atlas V launch complexes, so I ended up at a friends house on Merritt Island north of 528 for that launch.

All in all a fun/productive time except for the lousy weather and mosquito’s.

I wish I knew I would be there, I had a two day notice to get there. With two rocket launches scheduled that week and a doubling of the population, the closest hotel they could find was at the Hilton in Indialantic (north of Melbourne). I put 3 tanks of gas in the rental car during my stay.

It would of been cool meeting you.
