Default Turn Signal Does Not Flash

I have a 98 230. Occasionally, the turn signal will stay "on" when engaged and will not flash. This is a rare occurrence and I have not noticed a pattern to determine what factors may contribute.

A friend offered up that some European cars will alert you to a burned out bulb in this manner, but the bulbs seem fine - they just stay "on".

Any suggestions?

I think there is a relay that makes it flash and if that goes out, the flashing stops.

Thanks, Gabus. Sounds like I need to check continuity between the outputs of the relays and the metal strips in the picture. Can these be fixed by re-heating the solder? Or by placing a wire between the output and the strip?

Are the relays replaceable or do I have to replace the whole board?

MB Service Manager suggest inspecting the turn signal bulbs themselves. Says that if the two silver contacts have worn or melted together that the resulting short will cause the flasher to fail in the "on" state.

I will inspect and post my progress.

Is there a similar relay in the 2001 US SLK320? What do you do to fix the problem after finding the relay if one exists?
Thanks!
