Default CHECK ENGINE: the Blue Screen of cars?

I got the dreaded CHECK ENGINE light today... even the ol' gas cap trick didn't work

I turned in the car at the dealership today...

I love the car when it's on its best behavior... but I have had SO MANY problems with it... and I am actually about to hit 50,000 miles within the first 2 years of ownership (2007 SLK)

I plan to get the extended warranty before my current warranty ends...

Sorry to hear Shahed, I hope it's something minor.

hey, it turned out to be cam solenoid or something, that was covered by the warranty and fixed the next day.

the car turned out fine..!

when i got the car back, however, the attendant had left his paper floor mat in the car, and it was wet and dirty with muddy water...! and the passenger side had a lot of rain water on the leather seat and inside of the door...

oh well, I guess I'll just have to let my rep know about that when I fill out the survey...

I would call and let the service rep know first thing Monday. They should over to clean, dry and detail the interior without charge.

well, I've had a busy week... I folded up and threw away the muddy temporary mat, and wiped down the passenger side and seat, before I drove away.

I didn't get an email survey... I guess they don't want to know if they're not doing well?

I did get an automated phone call... when I responded that I wasn't completely satisfied, they provided a number to call to complain.

That number was actually the number to the dealership itself! (And they don't respond well if I call after business hours... and they're almost as bad at responding when I call during business hours... I get transferred back and forth between at least 3 people each time I call!)

Anyway, I still love the cars, and I would go back to buy my future cars, just because I am a Benz Fan...

I just hope they would give good service as Lexus dealers do to their customers (from what I've heard and read...)

Getting rain water in the car kinda sucks i wouldn't expect anybody to put up with that.

The paper on the other hand, just like you have busy days so does the tech and when they can be in and out of many many cars in a single day, sometimes they just forget to pull the damn things out.

now, you can imagine, how much I would rather avoid dealing with unfriendly customer service, any more than I would have to.

I just wiped it down, and that's the end of that.

I've made 2 new purchases at this dealership while in my 20s, and look forward to buying future Mercs... I wonder how they treat their pre-owned customers...!

A friend of mine at work just got a C63 AMG, but went out of town to get it... got a good deal on it too. But he also owns a Lexus GS, and has told me about the wonderful customer service they get at Lexus..!

If Lexus had anything I liked, I would definitely get a Lexus...

I don't like dealing with customer service that is not helpful. I would rather take care of the problem myself, if possible.

I took some paper towels, and used them to wipe down the water that was on the passenger seat. After I wiped the seat, the seat was dry.

Before I turned 30, I had purchased 2 new cars from the same Mercedes-Benz dealership, including the 07 SLK I have now.

This dealership has 2 locations on the same street: one for new car sales and the other for used car sales.

Since I have only bought cars from the new car sales division, I wondered how customers were being treated from the pre-owned location across the street.

I know a Lexus-owner who works in my office. He recently purchased a C63 AMG. But he didn't go to the same dealership that I normally go to. He went out of town to a different dealership to buy it.

After hearing about my customer service woes, he told me that he gets really good customer service at the Lexus dealership.

If Lexus (the company) produced something (a car) that I liked, I would consider purchasing a Lexus.

Unhappy 1st time on here. I'm BROKE and need help asap

Slk 200k engine light problems
Hi all...am new in here my 1st post.Ive had my SLK for 2 years now.Had no problems at all - just servicing when due. I recentley had a very minor collection on the L/R and I had it repaired (not by a MB Dealer). and it turned out excellent. I drove it for about a mounth, then all of a sudden last week I get a ABS, EPS,BAS and check engine light all comming on at once!!
I didnt want to risk taking to mercedes dealer because they will charge me an arm and leg even if its a minor fault! But, I was left with no choice. they charged me 239 to tell me that there was a lack of seal in the repairs in the trunk that signaled the sensor off when the rain water (6 inch) filled the trunk and gave me a bunch of codes like... P0500 , P0730, 147, 119, P2069, P20CA, P20CC. I have defined all of them. but also due to the water damage the locking system must be used automatically now.
the 119 is important
1 - vss = vehicle speed sensor

So my question is how do I do this right with out damaging the car or my pockets???
Is driving it ok like this? It is so slow driving off, It seems it went into some kind of shut down mode and puling away was so slow as if there was no power or as if you were in 3rd gear (Its an automatic car)i noticed the rev was high and the engine sounded extremely high when i pressed the accelerator pedal.maybe someone can explain if they have experienced this??

PLEASE I am desperate and broke, do I get someone to replace sensors? If so which ones?
What do I do? am I taking a toll on the engine by driving it.

There's more going on with that than a bit of water in the trunk, there's powertrain codes in that.

Unfortunately its probably going to be a dealer job when it comes to stuff like this because you need the DAS.

Listen to Dan. I know you don't want to damage your car or your pockets, but if you drive it in this condition, you could REALLY damage the car. If you don't like the dealer, ask everyone you know who has a Mercedes where they get their work done. I bet there is a reputable independant service place nearby that will do what needs to be done at a fair (maybe not cheap, but fair) price.

Good luck.

+1! Dan is reference here, and if I understand and you had 6 inches of water in the boot, I don't think there is a "cheap" fix, unfortunately. As Dan mentioned, at least one of those codes is telling you than the TCU is not happy - and it's not in the boot, so something else it "not right"...

well, it happened again.. but this time, it was worse.

* was driving this morning on 2-lane road, normal traffic movement
* suddenly the car stuttered, and all the lights came on
* center screen said "SpeedShift not Operative" or something like that
* pulled over to the left lane immediately, put the car in Park
* CHECK ENGINE light came on
* tried restarting the car, CHECK ENGINE light still on
* called Tele-Aid Roadside Assistance
* tried to drive forward slowly, onto the next light
* smelled burning smell
* pulled over to the right immediately, onto right shoulder this time
* friendly Mercedes assistance SUV just happened to pass by...
* ... asked if I needed help, I said I had already called for a tow
* tow truck arrived, and took my car in to dealership
* got my rental car, and went off on my merry way
* called dealership, they will look at it tomorrow, they said

... thoughts?
