Question Help: ML Power Tailgate Issue!

Hi to everyone at SLKWorld!

I've had my 2006 ML for 4 days now and I've noticed that the powered tailgate is a bit tempermental on 3 out of 5 closures.

1. It often starts closing and immediately re-opens like there is something triggering the safety mechanism, yet I cannot see anything that could be causing this.

2. When it does finally close, it doesn't always pull itself in and so I have to re-open it and let it auto close again or do this manually (which is hard work!).

Dan or anyone know of a TSB or remedy for this?

Thanks!

The dealer I purchased the vehicle from is in Salisbury (2.5 hours away from me) so can I go to my local MB dealership instead as it has the 12 months 'used car' guarantee?

I've already e-mailed them four days ago to complain that the alloys were scuffed and the seatbelts, carpet and leather interior had nicotine stains on them (previous owner was a smoker), and none of this was mentioned to me by the sales manager when I enquired about possible vehicle damage.

No reply from them yet, but I've asked for this to be rectified because otherwise the vehicle isn't as it's description.

So long as you brought the car from a proper MB dealer then just pop it into your local for any warranty work

Cheers Dan!

I had a scoot around the Internet last night and found a TSB with regards to the locking problem so I can give the number to them.

Also had to contact MB Head Office as I've received no reply from the Salisbury dealership with regards to the Sales Manager not informing me that there were scuffs to the alloys, and the interior having minor nicotine stains on it from the previous owner.

Other than that it's been great!

Glad you are happy with your new ride, and sorry to hear about the hopefully minor problems with it.

Both the wife and I smoke, and we've never smoked in any of our cars - so I share your pain with the nicotine stains. If they are on leather bits, I'd suggest the Zanio leather cleaner - my brother used mine on his MX-5, and it really did make a difference both in appearance and in the smell. Not 100% gone, but much better than it was before..

Not sure what your options are in the UK with a "not as advertised" car, but best of luck with getting some satisfaction from the seller.

Received a courtesy call from Mercedes-Benz to see how the delivery went, so I told them all about it and they have gotten in contact with the Salisbury dealership, who have admitted that they knew about the faults and said that they don't know why the vehicle was released in that state!

They are coming to collect it and sort the problems out, and will be delivering a courtesy car, which I'm hoping will be an ML.

Maybe an SLK loaner car???

But seriously doubt it.

Sounds like they are going to take care of you.

Best of luck.

I got a B180 CDI as a courtesy car which will do.

They have had it for a week now and were supposed to be returning it to me this afternoon, but I received a phone call to say they had only been on the road for 10 minutes and the parktronic system what crazy, so they took it back.

Sales Manager has apologised for the inconvieniences caused and has thrown in a set of carmats as a goodwill gesture!

Best of luck!! I hope they get it sorted. I think they have me set up for whatever the anemic A class is for my next loaner - my SA evidently didn't like the suggestion that I'd take the SL55 he's had on the lot for the last 6 months! :P

Glad to hear a third party from MBUK took car of it.

For others, don't brush them off...
