ok i have a bit of an identity crisis with my car i am lead to belive that the R170 had a face lift in 2000 however my car was first registered in oct '99 but when i try to find performance stats via this website

it says that mercedes didn't make any slk's in 1999 does this mean i have an early facelift model or a late pre-facelift model and the website is wrong?
i know the only differance in engine is about 5 bhp but it all counts

I don't know about UK models, but here in the US, the change came with the '01 model. Power increased from 185 hp to 192 hp. Here in the US, there was a '99 model -- with 185 hp -- same as the '00.

Also, I don't know about registration documents in the UK. But here in the US, your title would have the model year stated on it. This would have been entered by government officials when the car was first registered. titled, and tagged when new, and the model year designation would have come from the manufacturer's and dealer's sales documents regarding the sale to the original owner.

You have a pre face lift.
An easy way to recognize that from the piturs in your profile; You got black doorhandles - not the color of the car, you got no indicator lights in the side mirrors, you got no rocker panels.
The face lift for 200K(went from 200 to 200K) and 230K came in feb 2000

200K 192HP aug 96 - jan 2000 --> Only exported to Greece, Italy and Portugal, only manual, 12353 made

And you've got a boot lock showing on the boot. The face lift model has it hidden away where the handle is for opening the boot. Also, you don't have the side skirts.

Hi Gabus, where did you get your sales figures from? can you get them for tge R171, and a break-down by colour (at one time, mine was only one of four andradite green cars in the world - I would like to know how many were finally made before the colour was dropped).

Got these figures from a german site. Haven't found any numbers on the R171

....
...But I found out that there's at least 3 andradite green metallic (815) 350's in Germany, and that MB dropped that color in may 2005.
Maybe Dan could tell you how many were made since he's hooked up to Mercedes.......

Head on over and check your vin number at that Russian Site. You can get the model and engine designations.
