Default An intro and that perpetual old chestnut - BAS ESP light on...

Hi All!

May I introduce myself as a new SLK owner/driver. With a big grin!
First sportscar after a Honda, an Alfa, an Audi (my sensible now relegated to 2nd car), some Vauxhalls, a Ford etc etc!

One little fly in the ointment - I seem to have an intermittent BAS ESP light issue! Sometimes it's on, sometimes, it's off!

Cruise is working, brake lights are working. So does that mean it's not the switch?

I wondered about tyre issues?
I noticed that mine aren't exactly as the book says they should be

For mixed tyres, should be:
Front - 205/55 R16 91 W - I have Vs
back - 225/50 R16 91 W - mine are 92s

Can anyone give me some advice?
It has a warranty, but I want to be clued up as they have already tried (and failed) to fix it at the local MB dealers.

Thanks

Shona

Not a good sign.

From what I've read... Could be a bad sensor? Could be a loose or poorly sealing gas cap? Others more knowledgeable will probably step in.

Welcome to the forum!!!!!! And congratulations on a GREAT car.

Welcome to the site! Re your tires - the differences you have noted on your current tires from stock are related to load capacity and speed rating and should have no effect on BAS issues.

Thanks for the welcome and the words of wisdom.

I thought you were meant to have the same speed ratings front and back (though I appreciate the SLK can have mixed sized tyres...)?

I hope I get it sorted as it kind of is spoiling my total enthusiam if you know what I mean! That and
the fact it's been raining singe I got it!

The warning light will come on if the voltage drops too low. Are all the electrics ok?

Well, I'm wondering now about the voltage. Since I had just bought it from a dealer, it's probably not had a lot of use in the last few weeks, and the more I've used it, the less the light has come on. I've not seen it now for about 6 days.
Think that is a voltage thing?
thanks

Well, it went into the dealer yesterday and they diagnosed and fitted a new brake switch.

Then, guess what. They delivered it back to me, I took it out and the warning light came on again. Still has intermittant fault.

Pah!!

Any ideas?

It's getting plenty of running now, so surely couldn't still be a voltage thing?

Hi, and welcome
V rated tires (240km/h) on a SLK 350 would be very illegal in Norway.(guess a lot of other places also)
I would never accept those tires if I bought a SLK

Sounds like a wheel speed sensor to me. Or the steering wheel sensor.
