| Don't worry. It is not unusual for BMW owners to come to an MB forum for good advice. ![]() If your wheels are chrome plated over aluminum structure, I have some bad news for you. When aluminum wheels are "chromed" they must first be brass plated so the chrome will adhere. Problem is that the brass and aluminum together set up a chemical/electrical reaction that actually "eats" the structural aluminum. Peeling of chrome can be an early sign of this problem, which will eventually lead to loss of seal between wheel and tire, and a bunch of flats! It is in the part of the wheel that meets the tire where this problem usually starts. In a way, that's good, because if the deterioration began in the spokes, you can imagine the havoc than would ensue! In any event, and without knowing more details, it appears that you are in the market for a new set of wheels -- unfortunately. |

| There are some companies that will machine, acid dip, and then bead blast your rims before powder coating, but it depends on the value of your current rims, if they are just stockers, just get a new set. |
